The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

All those old guys that are so good with their bikes
/&%/()%"#¤
I wasn't good even when I was young
Now I'm middle aged (48) and I'm worse than when I was young
Well - at least I now try to ride more carefully and
I also wear full protection, yellow vest over my Gore-Tex, etc
In that way I am a "better" rider...

Is something like Hay'Bus' or ZX-14 a total waste under a guy like me?
Performance wise: YES!
Heck - even the Bandit is too much for me to ride fully banket on curves
Then
why on earth would I like to by a more performing bike
when I'm not using all the power of my current mc
?
For many reasons
a) anything better gives me more leverage
eg. if I'm not stupid enough to jerk the throttle or front brake etc
I should have an easier bike to handle
therefore this summer I'm gonna test drive a few bikes
how they handle at walking speed circles, twists etc
plus how easy it is to do an emergency breaking
and finally: how easy it is to swerve an obstacle
b) bragging rights?
It's just so nice to have fuel injection, ABS, more power
a more modern bike
c) back to a: more low-end torque makes roll-ons easier
climbing a mountain rode easier
riding in traffic jam easier
d) back to b - just because I want it

Now try to tell me that someone who can't handle a full power of a bike
should not buy it
or tell that it's wasted on me
It's not your money
Using any 125cc you can beat me regardless of my bike and the track
I just want to go touring on the best possible sport-touring bike

Perhaps it's Kawasaki GTR-1400

Hell, I'm 66 (!) and ride both a new 14 and a ZX10R. I don't delude myself about being the fastest guy on the street, and I'm probably using no more than 50-60% of these bike's capabilities, but its nice having all that reserve. I'll stop buying hyperbikes when they plant me.

+1 Marco...I'm 49 in a few months and couldn't have put it better than you just did -- hat's off to you and stick around for another 40 years so you can buy the ZX25 LOL...

VPN -- go out and buy whatever the fuck makes you happy...you don't owe anything to anyone here, on the street, or anywhere else...if you think you have to be 25 and be pushing the bike to extremes all the time to deserve one, you don't.my friend...just buy whatever floats your boat and party on!

Your skills diminish, but your judgment, like fine wine has been aged over time with experience and that makes up for it.

You know, some things you just gotta have. Like my '03 Z06 Corvette. Had ta have it, got it, gonna keep it. Do I go out and blitz the roads at 175 every day? Nope, no way. Fastest it's been is about 140 on the track. Ok, ok...I was on US20 out in eastern OR and took it up past 160. It's three years old now, paid off, and has 12042 miles on it...I think I've driven it mabye 40 miles this year so far. But wtf, I still get a kick out of it when I do tke it out.

I think it's arrogant to tell somebody you have to ride a bike to its full potential and immature if you do do it on the road.

The 14 is perfect for that riding. It's not twitchy, jerky, or unstable. It has all the reserve you can call for. I'm a fickle rider. Somedays I ride like I'm 20, other days I sight see. I think the 14 is comfortable for both.

I'm 48..when I first jumped on a motorcycle in the local ravine at 14 yrs old.I soon began to dream about one day riding the bikes of the future..imagining what power they would have..what speed...the last few years I've had the priviledge to own an '02 zx12r,'04 zx10r and now an '06zx14 and everytime I've ridden each I've marvelled at how lucky I am to get to ride a machine with performance parameters almost equal to a' back of the back 'indy car around our gorgeous landscapes on great roads built by many at much expense seemingly for my pleasure..the 14 is a continued refinement..extremely stable and fast..and some what comfy..gear it down[great improvement] and wait patiently for performance upgrades.. all though ridden in spirit it needs none...
