Nice, but this is from 2000. A 6 year old comparison. Granted the basic principals are the same but chemisty and oils have changed substantially in the last 6 years. It would be cool if they repeated the comparison today.

Yes, the EPA has mandated less use of the catalyist damaging additives that lube your cams lobes. But no one should be using an SJ,SL,SM oil in a bike anyway.
I'd like to see Motorcycle Consumer News do a test of some of the new oils on the market now and how they stack up to the ones they tested.
I wonder how much they change the formulas from year to year without changing the product name itself? This day and age I would think they would market it as "new" or "reformulated" or try and grab more market share somehow and use the reformulation to thier marketing advantage.
A total retest of all the oils would answer that question.
There are more recent tests like this on the net thou.

Y the zx-14 manual states API SE,SF OR SG. Then go's on the state API SH,SJ OR SL WITH JASO MA. I would take this to mean that Kawasaki reccomends SJ, SL in the new 14??

Well the zx14 has a catalyist so it wouldnt supprise me to see them recomending SJ,SL,SM oils. The feds would mandate they tell you that to make the catalyist last longer.
