Do a search, this topic's been hashed before, but: I like Amzoil Race 2000 and Mobile 1 MX4T...both are top rated full synth oils.

As far as shear stability (amout and quality of polymers used) you wont find any oil better than Spectros full synthetic and golden 4 blend. BMW's SG is right there.
Look up any one of a dozen independent tests on the internet for shear stability in engine oils and you will see this reguardless of what lab did the testing.
Also as far as acid neutralizers like calcium, magnesium and boron they are one of the highest. This prevents etching and corosion protection from acid buildup. but if you change your oil every 2-3000 miles and in the fall before you put your bike away this isnt such a factor.

But the real area where bmw and those two spectro oils set them selves apart from all other oils is the phosphorous and zink content. These are the two to really watch for.
They protect the cam shafts and buckets on high reving bike engines. Its the most important additive to watch for when selecting an engine oil in a non roller lifter/cammed engine.
Again, BMW SG and spectro golden4 and the spectro full synthetics are way, way higher in content than any other bike or automotive oil.

Bottom line, stay away from automotive oils like castrol GTX etc., also stay away from oils with molybdenum in them. And dont use ANY SJ spec oils. They dont have any of the good stuff in them because the feds dont want it in the oil anymore.

Search the internet for oil tests etc and see what oils have the best of the good stuff and go from there.

This is one of many tests on oils......

RedLine has the most Molybdenum...I have been using it for years now and my clutch is good for me...Maybe a little slippage is good???...On a ZX12 slippage sure is good!!!

Some good info here, Y2K.
Regarding Castrol GTX, I have been using it between circa 1982 and 1999 exclusively in all my cars and bikes, until one exhaust valve in my Land Rover, with 33,500 miles on it, had high speed encounter with a piston right in the middle of nowhere in Baja (Mexico). I was fortunate to be able get home on 7 cylinders (with two small kids and during torrential rain pour). After that, I never touched that witch brew.

Thats what I run only because thier full synthetic doesnt come in a 10-40 and the fact that I change the oil every 3000 miles anyway.
Wait untill you feal how the bike shifts with Golden 4. You will notice an instant difference. Thier anti-wear additives are very noticeable with the shift forks.
If you power shift into 2nd gear alot you will still wear out your 2nd gear fork but thats the price you pay for doing full throttle metal to metal power shifts all the time. Besides its alot easier to replace a fork then the gear because the contact face of the gear is worn off.
