Prescribed break in procedure?
As I don't have the bike yet I'm curious about the break in procedure according to the manual.
Can anyone describe it?

Pretty simple: max of 4k rpm to 500 miles, max of 6k to 1000. BTW, with the bike's tall gearing, 4k in 6th gear is 80 mph, so you won't be holding traffic up.

I don't prescribe the 'ride it like you stole it' from day one, but the Kawasaki break in is pretty conservative. My bike has 300 miles on it (work getting in the way of riding) and I've been taking it to around 6000 rpm for brief stints to get some load in the engine. A little more rpm is better than lugging the engine during break in.
Engines that have the coated cylinder walls (nikisil) don't require a lot of break in.
I bought mine in another city, so the first 180 miles was all freeway. I was up and down from 4th to 6th briefly loading the engine and then going a few miles to let it cool than doing it some more.
As soon as I got home, I dumped the oil and changed the filter as well.
I'll probably continue the same until 500 to 600 miles than I will get deeper into the rpm's

it is good to give the engine some load during the break in and let it sit and cool off right after the load so all internal parts can sit correctly with each other.

No one's ever going to agree on this----we have been here before. My opinion means nothing because every one is going to do it their own way and I bet the end results will be the same no matter what you do. I would say Brock's 14 recieved the hardest breakin and it is making 195 hp!!!

True and as manufacturing tolerances get smaller and smaller there's more weight to the argument against traditional breaking in.
Just remember that it's a machine and the first few hundred miles are also important in making sure that no defective parts have been used and no assembly "problems" have found their way onto your bike.
So even if you don't want to break it in, treat the first miles as a shake-down at least.
