Cal model??
Anyone know yet if there's a California model of the 14? Do you folks outside of California have a charcoal cannister??
Since it has cats and is apparently rather lean down low, I'm wondering if this is a 50 state bike...

I dont beleive all models are Ca.
I think I saw another post where a members bike had no canister - also
if im not mistaken, the additional vent lines on the rear of the tank.

Vapor recovery plumbing is specific to CA.

I thought that was correct, I also remember a guy in Las Vegas
that ended up with a Cali model bike. He did'nt seem happy
about it.

No, I wouldn't be very happy about it either.
It's happened to me, so I'm wary of it. I bought a ZX-11 brand new off the showroom floor here in Oregon. I assumed it was a non-Cal model - after all, I bought it up here. Well, turned out it was a Cal model. I shouted, I stomped, I whined, but to deaf ears. I was told that Kawi simply fills orders with stock on hand and if the model/year/color happens to be a Cal spec bike, it gets sent.
Thanks for weighing in...

Yes there is a Cal spec!!!
Look at your warranty registration card before you buy; if the model code ends with 'L' you have a California spec vehicle and the new EPA regulations will become effective in stages, starting in 2006 and harmonizing with California 's standards in 2010.

And chances are, many owners would take off those 2 pounds (exhaust and a little plumbing) anyway.

Yah that was me and from what i understand alot of bikes sent out were for Cali. Somthing to do with Cali having a larger market share than other states and deals were made from one dealer to another in diffrent states....Cali had the bikes other states didnt they either sold or traded them thats why in some places the price increased depending on what was payed to the Cali dealerships. Thats what i was told anyway

The two 12r's that I bought in Az were Cali bikes. I had to remove the CalCrap.
The dealer said that "everyone out West gets the Cali models"
It is not just the weight, the can takes up valuable storage space. :-)

But in some bikes at least the plumbing reduces the gas tank size

Why is it every time a guy asks about a Cal spec bike someone always just has to come back with a weight/performance comment...
(D - slap yourself please. And do a good job...)
I don't give a flyin rat's furry little ass about a 2lb weight difference - heck that's, what, a quart of stout. And I'm not concerned about any difference in horsepower.
It's the damned extra vacuum lines and plumbing I don't want any part of...
When I spend my hard-earned money on something, I don't see why I should have to alter the thing to pull off what shouldn't have been there in the first place ( unless I'm not offered an alternative - like catastrophic perverters for instance. They're on the new 14 regardless whether it's a 49 State bike or a Cal bike).
So my decision is to not buy a Cal spec bike unless and until that's all that's offered for sale in the good 'ol US of A.
A little bedtime story ferya: I chased an elusive vacuum leak on my 'ol Cal spec ZX-11 that drove me nuts. It wasn't until I stripped the bike of all 'unnecessary' crap that it finally disappeared. Probably some tiny pinhole in one of the lines or an imperfect fit to a vacuum nipple or - who knows.
Bottom line is, if I can save myself the hassle by letting the Fruits and Nuts brigade keep their F'n stuff down there, all the better for me...

Fuel tank capacity on the ZX14 is identical between Cal and non-Cal models

Wonder how they pulled that off...
Still won't buy a Cal bike though, even if it held MORE fuel.

I can tell you this, and you can take it to the bank if the 14's Cali emissions are set up the way 12's are (and I'd bet they are):
The additional "weight" of the Cali bike is totally negligible.
On the 12 it was a second arm coming out of the Kllen Air pump, 4 feet of vacuum hose and a plastic purge cannister filled with a 1/4 cup of charcoal.
Total weight MAYBE 1/8 lbs, 1/4 lbs at worst

There are 49 state/Ca model Heres how to tell.
This is a listing of matching Models in the Catalog Model Notes
ZX1400A6F 49-State Spec. (US)
ZX1400A6FL California Spec.(CA)
NOTE: Even if you did not purchase your vehicle in California, you may have a California (CA) Spec model. To ensure that you are able to select the correct parts for your vehicle, you must know whether your vehicle is a California (CA) spec or 49-State (US) spec model. Look at your warranty registration card; if the model code ends with 'L' you have a California spec vehicle. To go directly to the correct parts list for your vehicle, you may enter your Vehicle Identification Number on the Vehicle Information screen.

No I posted it because the parts numbers are actually different in some
cases. If I got that from you then I thank you for the info. I'm not really sure
where I found that.
