1000 miles in a day...WOW
I've just finished the ironbutt and the best part is when it's over.....Wait 2 days and I forget about the pain and I'm ready to do it again.
Well it started this morning at 2 am and I finished just before 8 pm. I covered 1022 miles. I've learned some things about the bike and some about me. First the bad, nothing major really just the idle seemed to get bumped about 200 rpm (Yes some advice here would be nice) and the second as I was coming home the bike heated up good, temp was about 75F. All day this bike has run cool to say about 70F then warm to about 83F then she just heats everything up. Well last 30 miles or so she just heated up as if it was in the mid 80's, but its about 75 right now. Nothing it has not done before this is just the first time all day the bike did the opposite of the outside temp.
OK now the good, this bike has to be the coolest touring bike in the world. It's fast, it has great brakes, it's the smoothest motorcycle I've ever ridden. MY HAND NEVER WENT NUMB and I swear that has never happened on any bike that I've ever owned. Finally I like when other bikers dam near fall off their bike looking at our 14. Look I'm as hard core about touring as FBA, Fish and most others here are about performance. For me I want to just ride as long as I have money to put gas in her. Well as Most know she does not disappoint in the performance department well she does not disappoint in the touring dept. Way smoother than the VFR and that's no small at-a-boy, I think it's huge. Not sure what's breaking in after 700 miles but my first tank Avg 39.1 then 42.1,43.2, 45.4 MPG.
Things to Note: Must Remember 181 HP when fatuiged <(Dam French words...JUST KIDDING)
That puppy surprised me a couple times. Nothing time won't heal
DITTO for Brakes
Handling is excellent..Maybe not the best thing on a ST, This puppy responds quickly and as one starts to feel fatuige a stupid move can get you killed.
Hey guys I'm ready for bed I'l post the pics Sunday

FBA,
Rain suit and head in the other direction ;^ ). I'm planning a trip 3 day Biker Bob the end of the month. That should be good for another 2K. Knock on wood, when traveling to a place most likely hit rain just the way it works. BTW I see the crap you guys are putting up with, I wish you could send it to us. 7 days of rain here would really be a blessing. Brush fires suck, and close roads I need to escape.

Thanks for the report.
I'm not an Ironbutt guy, but I love longer rides. I have a bad right wrist, but on the -14 it hasn't bothered me yet! And the seat is great for a stocker. Also, love the gas mileage increase as the bike broke-in.
It has been raining here since last Tuesday and they say it may go on for another 4-5 days And I've only been able to get a bit over 300 miles on the bike with all the other things going on in the family. Need to RIDE!

Thanks for the responces.
Hey Toolman that is very impressive, I don't care what bike your riding. I've done a little over 1300 miles Dallas, Tx to Orlando and that took me a good part of 21 hours. Something to that 2nd wind huh. It's a bit easier to ride fast out West I did 90 just about everywhere still got passed up. Elevation will eat some fuel.
Rob
PS I'll bet you could do it on the 14, smooth I mean Dam smooth bike.

FBA, You asked about the tires, well remember I'm a touring guy and although I enjoy throttling up I'm sure I don't have nearly the fun you all have. At 1722 the tires look great, I expect to pull 10,000 miles out of these babies (yes it's fair to call me puss-boy). Keep in mind my weight is 154 lbs and that does help some. So far I've been impressed with the BT's so much so that I will stick with them on the rear. The Dunlop's have been pretty good to me in the past and I may go back to them if the front tires begins to cup. I'll put another 600 miles before a 2000 mile road trip so by months end I could be between 4500-5000 miles remind me I'll take a couple of picks of the tires.
