Is it when the bike is rolling?
My chain needed adjustment already - 650 Kms!
chain was slapping the slider.

Update ..Just got back from the Dealer..The dealer said when he put the bike together and did the first test ride that he heard the same sound ..He was thinking it was the 82 octane gas that they have around the shop to gas up new bikes, He was thinking it was spark knock so he when down a put some 92 octane gas in it for me....I have allway ran 92 or 93 from day one and never heard any spark knock .....So today he rode it again and said that was the same sound he heard before , he said it would do no good to take it apart now because they might not find anything .. And I'm OK with that ...He said drive it till it comes apart and if it does come apart we will fix it.....And i'm ok with that too.... At the very lease both the owner and their head Tec have heard the sound and that if nothing else it makes me feel a little better about the hole thing... I'm going to keep this bike for a few years so i may pick up Kawasakis extra warranty just in case...Pretty cheap insurance if you ask me..

Sorry smoking for your problem, but you might want to rethink that, like how can you feel safe at a buck something and maybe your engine blows, hot oil on the rear tire sucks.

Start documenting everything now because you might have to push this with Kawa.

Yep - make sure you have them open up a repair order with the miles/concern/correction/date etc on it so yer not left holdin the bag if sumthin happens 2 weeks outta warranty.

It's always about documentation - you'll get nothing without it.

Good point. I will do just that...

This sound that i'm hearing maybe just normal for this bike ...Nobody around me has one to compair it too , Maybe in time there will be more zx14s on the road to compair notes..

This has to be one rock solid motorcycle if Brock with 127 miles has seen 60+ 1/4 mile runs and at least that many dyno runs with no problems ...

I have had a fuel injected Kawasaki Turbo and some of them do make
a clicking noise. I thought I heard engine detination but I think its the wind
under my helmet when I gas it lol. These motors are pretty much bullet proof.
Unless you have been pushing redline out of the box I doubt your hearing
any type of damage. And I know a few people that open them right up from
the first mile a'nd they have had no problems. I don't recommend it but I do
recommend you go atleast 2000 rpm more over the manuals info if you don't
want it to be a dog.

I think I hear it too on mine at idle with hot engine, clutch pulled in. I think the kawi clutch noise over powers it when the lever is out. I'd put my money on cam chain.....I know it's a new style of tensioner....using oil pressure at higher rpm's but at lower ones probably just relies on the spring loaded ratchet pawl....betcha it will adjust itself after a few thousand. I think my cam chain is loosening up with break in and snatching a bit at idle.....shit you should hear my buddies bmw k1200gt....really loud at idle......fresh pair of earplugs helps me usually cheers

Same noise here too. I noticed it around 140 miles, won't here it after I put my Muzzy on though. Haven't been easy or hard on the motor. Maybe a good time to look into an extended warranty?

If your cam chain has stretched enough to cause "noise" you have a serious problem.

Let you in on something you may not know - the cam chain is without a doubt the most precision piece of non-solid engineering in your motor.

It ain't your cam chain.

You guys with new bikes (that you are not used to) need to get used to the fact that they change in sound as they break-in. Thats life.

It's under warranty so break it in and then ride it and quit worrying about normal sounds.

Seriously.

Every bike I've ever owned (it's a long list) was quiet as all get out when new and progressively got a little noisier during break-in.

It's mechanical and machines make some noise once the parts start to wear in.

If you want quiet, buy a sewing machine.

Smokin,
When you changed your break-in oil...what did you switch to?
Is it a lighter weight, fully synthetic etc?

My engine became instantly louder when I added my HP freeing oil...but it is LESS than zero weight! We use it in our race bikes; they get a bit louder...but nothing like the 14.

If you changed to something thinner than 10-40, you might have increased valve train noise due to reduced viscosity. I have not checked my valve lash, but I feel my bike has been a bit noisy since day one.

A exhaust leak or vibration of the mounting springs will also terrify you if don't realize what you are hearing.

I hope this helps,
Brock

The only noise I have right now is a buzzing/vibration sound between 3 and 4K RPMs, almost like keys jingling a bit. Hoping that I can find something once I take all the plastic off for the exhaust swap. Probably something in the gauge cluster at that RPM, like on my 12, but hope it is easier to find. Clutch is a bit noisy when in neutral, but if you have ever had a vette Z06, the ZX14 clutch noise in neutral is much, much quieter compared to that dual disc that is in the vette.
