This is good advice. The reason some motor manufacturer's use full synthetic from the start is so they can advertise that no service is required for 20 thousand miles. The reality is the rings don't bed into the bores properly over the first thousand or so miles, oil consumption remains high and by the time 20000 miles is reached you have probably changed the oil several times with 1 pint top-ups every thousand miles.

Volatility issues stem from car makers trying to run thinner oils for fuel economy, consumers ignoring the break-in procedures or consumers buying low end oil to save money. Simply using synthetic does not cause oil consumption in new cars, otherwise all European cars would, which isn't the case.

In 95 and 96 the GPZ's had trouble with camshaft wear . I used Klotz 20W50 full syn. At 20,000 miles when I sold it cams still looked like brand new!

I've been using Amsoil on and off the Track for years. My Bikes (2 and 4 stroke), Cars, Trucks, chainsaws etc.
I love the stuff.
I break the Vehicle (whatever) in on Mineral oil, and then do a flush and switch to Synthetic.
In my Suburban just the Oil change alone gave me a consistant 80 Km's more to a tank (less friction).
