Let's clear up some myths about oils...
I've been reading some opinions about oils and since I worked a few years for one of the biggest oil manufacturers in the world I recommend you break in your bike with a standard motor oil for around 600 miles before switching to synthetics.
Why?
A good synthetic oil offers high anti-wear protection and it won't allow engine parts to seat-in.
The break-in period is a controlled wear allowing parts to wear into each other creating a match. Once break-in is done you can use synthetic in order to keep the parts from wearing further and protect them from cold engine start-ups to extreme heat situations.
This is my advice, now it's up to you...

Yeah, but we all know that all bikes are run on the dyno before being shipped out and are fully broken in.
Just like cars.

So -- why are high performance cars shipped with Mobile 1? Are you saying that the manufacturers don't want the engines broken in properly, or are these engines designed specifically for use only with Mobil 1? According to your statement, it must be one or the other...just curious...

They prefer for you to use a synthetic, but it's very unlikely they are first run in with it. After the rings are seated you can use synthetics.

This is good advice. The reason some motor manufacturer's use full synthetic from the start is so they can advertise that no service is required for 20 thousand miles. The reality is the rings don't bed into the bores properly over the first thousand or so miles, oil consumption remains high and by the time 20000 miles is reached you have probably changed the oil several times with 1 pint top-ups every thousand miles.

Every car manufacturered in Europe come with synthetic oil as first-fill.
All Saab's made in Sweden come with Elf synthetic 0w30 as first-fill.
My point:
There are so many variables of materials and preparation that broad conclusions are impossible. If your car comes with synthetic oil as it's first-fill oil, things are very clear, but to then say that every car or bike can do the same is wrong.
None of know what each manufacturer uses as ring material or cylinder prep, neither do we know how each motor is run-in at the factory.
If you want to run synthetic oil right away (I do) and are willing to pay the price of being wrong, go for it, if not, follow the manual.

Talking to engine builders in the know, some very reputable ones in fact; they say that after the 1st 100 miles, go ahead and put in the synth which I have done. Now at 1000 miles, I'm heading out to do another change once again. Using Amzoil 200 race oil. All good so far, engine purrs like a kitten and goes like a bat outta hell!

I ran my break-in oil right up to 600 miles (609 to be exact), then changed to Motul 5100 semi-synth 10w-40. Figured I'd leave the original oil in for the recommended number of miles to make sure everything got seated and "loosened up" well ;-)

Exactly my point. That's why the motoring columns in the newspapers here are full of letters saying "My new VW, Saab or whatever is using half a litre of oil every few hundred miles, what's wrong ?". The answers always advise running in on mineral oil and then a change to synthetic if desired. Remember the car makers are looking after their own interests first and foremost.

And why you compare cars with bikes?
Both engines are completely different. High performance cars are fully broken in at the factory but bikes take longer, that's why manufacturers recommend to use standard motor oil for the first 600 miles.
Believe it or not, but it's a fact.
