Taking Stuff Off

Day two and I've begun my standard ritual of taking superfluous shit off the 14. The fork reflectors are gone (easy) and the rear fender has been circumsized (Dremel tool), but the rear reflectors/bungee hooks present a challenge. Has anyone come up with the combination to get at the attaching hardware which appears to be buried inside the rear cowl?

Remove the cowl...Lockhart Phillips has a fender eliminator for the 14...42 bucks available soon. Cowl should be easy to get at...my 10R is 4 screws.

I just took off the entire rear fender assembly. Two small "L" brackets for the license plate and you are finished. Rear end now looks very clean. No undertail needed

I see a lot of unfinished work in the undertail...I take it you only removed the bracket with the plate and flasher assembly? So you still see some bolts and shit under there? That would be ok for me...instead of spending $$$ to get a kit.

I want a simple license plate bracket. Can anybody point me in a direction to get one that's relatively inexpensive? I just want to hang my tag under there... nothing fancy.

Once the license palte assembly is removed, all that is under the tail is a couple of holes where the assembly was bolted on. I used a couple of machine screws and washers (painted flat black) to colver those holes. I purchased two "L" brackets from Walmart for 83 cents to hold the license plate.

I don't have picture hosting figured out but will e-mail pics if you send me a PM

This was done a few minutes ago...dissassembly /install and re-assembly was 25 minutes, I have to go get caps to cover the holes...and if you send me the pics, I'll host em for ya TJ! Send me a PM and I'll do it later tonight, wil try and get higher detailed pics when I change the transit for a permanent plate in the next few days. Sunlight fucked up the shots. I had an undertail bracket kit I got for $45.00 a few years ago and never used. This one is full adjustable for height and angle.

I think I have the picture hosting figured out. The license plate frame is a little big. The frame comes off as soon as my plate gets here. Here is what I have...

BS -- no way he dropped 80LBS...my guess is that 's his semi wet weight....like an empty tank of gas? Bike weighs 550 wet from the factory (about)...is he saying the he dropped 80 LBS? EIther that, or his scale is off....wonder if it was weighed before the mods?

Well on second thoughts and basic math I stand a pretty good chance of bein wrong here.

And I'm OK with that.

474 stated dry weight, bout 40 pounds of fluids and less the stock exhaust system (34 pounds total system weight) - would still seem like the bike should be in the 490 range though.

How'd ya do it?
