Engine ice v/s Water Wetter

I am going to dump the coolant and change to either Water Wetter or Engine Ice. I've heard good things about both and don't know which way to go. Anyone with any experiance got an opinion?

I've used water wetter in the recommended quantities in the past with good results, but recently I've seen some people say that they are going to replace coolant with 100% water wetter. That doesn't sound like a good idea to me, since I don't think it significantly raises the boiling point of water like anti-freeze does.

I was thinking about removing an appropriate amount of coolant and replacing it with water wetter this weekend.

I use water wetter in my zx9 for track days and after a couple of sessions, the engine gets pretty hot and my temp guage stays normal. that's a pretty hard beating especially at rod atlanta but have never used engine ice. Dont think it is allowed.

I read somewhere that Engine Ice has a limited life and should be changed every month or so----I think I may have read that on the bottle, but not sure. Water Weter works great and only takes a small amount to really make a differance---you should also use about 15% antifreeze also to keep the water pump lubricated and the passages clean.

I read about all of this water wetter and decided to try it in my 10R. So I emptied some coolant and put in the bottle. It works some when you're running, but when you sit in traffic, seems to have little to no effect. I was thinking about removing the coolant and adding only distilled with with Purple Ice...but I think before I do that, I'll install a fan switch on the 10R...Damn that thing runs hot.

I run the recommended mix of Water Wetter and distilled water in my '04 10R. Since I don't do any in town riding ("stop and go" at traffic lights), I haven't had any problems with the bike getting hot (stays in the 170's). Then again, the average temps were usually below 90 since I made the switch. Don't know what the case will be when it gets into the high 90's or over 100.

The only thing I have heard about Engine Ice is that CMRA and some other racing organizations will not allow it on their race tracks. On the other hand, I believe you can run it in AMA events, but I am not sure.

Im running Engine Ice in both my bikes ........ with excellent results.

I have also run watter wetter with the same results - only difference
with watter wetter, you'll loose the freeze protection, if you plan to run
just water and water wetter.

If you are using your bike only at the track, distilled water mixed with the recommended amount of Water Wetter should keep your bike the coolest, but for a street bike thats subjected to stop and go traffic, use a blend of 60 to 65% WW and distilled water and 35 to 40% antifreeze to prevent localized boiling and overheating. I've recently tried 60% Maxima Cool-Aide and 40% antifreeze in one of my billet block street bikes and it seems to work best of all.

That engine ice stuff is way too damn expensive. I'll stick with water wetter. It's been around for a LOT longer time and has been proven many times over in many different race and street applications.

if you use to much of this kind of stuff your engine will seep coolant in place's you don't want it to. it breaks down the molecules in water and antifreez to thin them out......mix it the way it says on the bottle.

Took the coolant out of my 12R, replaced it with distilled water and water wetter... BIG difference in how hot it runs on the road AND in traffic.

Has anyone flushed out the 14 yet? Don't know when a service manual will become available and don't want to F anything up. Matt - Did you use 50/50 distilled to WW?

Im sure its not difficult. Its a matter of undoing a few hoses.... usually near the bottom of the engine. Usually the water pump has a drain plug on it too. You can let gravity drain it

Interesting thread as I just put engine ice in my 12R. So far I am not that impressed with it. We haven't even began to have any "hot" weather and what little stop and go traffic I encountered in town had the temp gage in the 10 o'clock position.

I am actually wondering if I still have air in the system??? What's a sure-fire way to tell??? With the gap trip coming up in 6 days I'd like to be a little more confident that I've got the bike full of coolant.
