Seat Cowl BS
When you guys get your bikes, REMOVE THE SEAT COWL IMMEDIETLY!
On Sunday after I got home from my long ride, I took the cowl off to give the wifey a short ride. Much to my surprise, the damn cowl has rubbed the plastic bodywork right beside the seat toward the front and rear. The marks are about 1/4" outside of the seat - right where the edge of the cowl contacts the rear bodywork.
I think in that very short amount of time that it's already rubbed through the clear. I'm going to try some cleaner & wax one evening this week and see how well it cleans up.
BE WARNED: If you don't plan on leaving the cowl on all the time, take it off ASAP.

Interesting Matt, that none of the issues (heat, flat spot, and now cowl) never made it to any of the test reports. You think that maybe the test bikes were not the same as the production units. Just curious---

Easy i don't think that's the case, Matt has more seat time to see the bugs show up.. Remember the testers where be dazzeled by Kawi and the brite lights of Vegas and may have miss a few little items ...

Matt, when you either polish the marks out or get your warranty replacement tail piece, stick some clear plastic on the bodywork.

we didnt spend much, if any time taking the bikes apart. I was one of the few guys who actually took the seat off, and that was to take a pic of the trunk space (or lack of)... didnt pay attention to anything else..
matt.. take some pics .. maybe there's something obvious that can be done to adjust it ... had something similar on my 04 10R... some small fiddling solved it.

The 10r had its problems as well.. Kawasaki has never been to big on fit and finish. I wish some honda would rub off on them...

Remember the 12R cowl had to be shimmed as well, breakin the forward mounting tabs was real common.
Don't wait to call the dealer - let em know ASAP.
Be prepared for backorder parts (obviously).

One of my ZX12R's(the 02)seat cowl, had to be shimmed with washers.

Ditto, mine too. Was pretty easy and quick, wasn't worth the time to go to the dealer and complain with the 12R. Hopefully the same quick fix can be had with the 14 cowl.

Thanks Matt took off the cowl last nite to take momma and the new twins around the block did not notice marks but did not look either .Will look at cowl and front brake tonight

You can install some clear bra plastic on the cowl so that it doesnt rub again should you decide to fix it yourself. i use it on my fairing and front fender to prevent the rock chips.

Toolman you can go to your local tint shop most tint shops install clear bra's. They can sell you a piece, if not let me know and ill get you some,i have access to some. Its a clear plastic sheet thats thick kinda like tint and you place it on hoods and bumpers to prevent rock chips, some guys out here even place it on there tanks to protect it from scratches. It works well. Let me know.

How durable is it (the clear plastic)? Is it difficult to remove when it needs replaced? Do you cover the front edges or the whole fender/ fairing?

It last about ten years, i cover the sides and the front of the fender also on the gas tank i cover the top of the tank. If you have a heat gun it is pretty easy to remove. Its nice cause it does not change the appearance of the paint or the look of the bike, it just protects
