Question for all you "centerstand haters"

How the hell do you lube your chain when you come home from a ride? I sold my pit bull with my ZRX since the ZZR had a centerstand. Now I've got this 14 *without* a centerstand and I'm wondering how the hell I'm going to lube the chain tomorrow...

I guess I could ask one of my dumbass neighbors to come over and spray lube all over my wheel while I hold up cocked sideways on the side stand

Quick Stand

http://www.motorcycleradar.com/quick_stand.htm

...I use it...small, compact, easily stowed in my 12R (dunno how it'd stow on the ZX-14), great for trips...I wished I had thought of it...

I spray lube on the track links and the drive sprockets move the tank forward and repeat . . . NO, wait, we dont have any fuckin' motorcycles with chains. We only have bikes with shafts and belts!

You mean I have to go back to lubing chains!?! I got tired of the Diesel wash of the chain and rear wheel and now I gotta do it again? I should rethink this whole 14 thing . . . OK, I'll do it I guess.

bike, the Suzuki GSF-1200/S Bandit
does have a centerstand by default
I have opted to have a CLS-200 electronic automatic oiler
While I check the chain tension I add some oil to the reservoir
If I forget it, I'll do it next time
The reservoir is good for more than 3000 miles
The drops of oil will keep the chain optimally lubricated
Naturally it is adjustable so I can +/- depending on road/weather

In a pinch, that works...I use a pit stand with spool ends and when I travel...2 people -- one to hold her up and one to spray...

Yeah - I'm undecided on whether I should buy another pit bull or buy the factory centerstand... I'll probably go with the centerstand though. Lubing on longer rides was always easy 'cause there's plenty of guys around to help with the 2-person spray process, but it's a pain at home.

The friend that bought my pit bull also has the front pit bull now - that makes a nice pair. I've even seen a couple of companies offer front & rear pit stand sets in the magazines lately for reasonable combo prices, I may check those out too. That extra height might even make oil changes a little easier

Not sure how well the factory center stand clears the ground while at rest; I know on my FJR, it would hit the ground occasionally on a hard turn. I can't think of any reason to get a center stand over a pit stand other than not having to use the 2 person method while away from home, not to mention the fact that it adds weight and bulk to the bike. Pit stands work beautifully and add nothing to the bike, except spool ends at the rear.

Made my own Quick stand out of an old ski pole. Works great. Cost near nothing. It is very small and may even fit under the seat of a 14, but I dont know that for sure.

You're all making it too difficult. Lubing chains is another use for a wife! It's a regular line at my house: "You wanna' roll or spray?" Depending on the bike height...

Lube the lower rung of the chain only. Lift the bike's rear wheel using the side stand. Kick the rear tire around with your foot until you can lube another part of the lower rung of the chain. Repeat until you kicked the wheel around enough to lube the whole lower rung of the chain..
If you spray the outer run of the chain, centrifugal force will fling the lube off. But if you lube the inner rung, the spinning chain will push the lube to the outside of the plates/rollers.

If you tour a great deal get a Scott Oiler or other auto chain oiler. They work great and outside of filling the container every so often, nothing to worry about.

...I often ride by myself, so I have to be self efficient...Ozzy and I have the right idea when we're on the road, and you might, too, when you realize how the concept works...Quick Stand ($34?) or home-made model that does the same thing (free)....you'll need at least one spool, though, or something for the quickie stand to attach itself to....but I wouldn't wanna wrestle a rear wheel off of the bike with either...I'll use my PitBulls for that task...

....its a play on my intentions, so I stick with the word "efficient"...as in "with minimum effort"....as oppsed to "sufficient" as in "all that is needed"....alas, I guess either would be appropriate, cuz' its all I need to oil my chain by myself with minimum effort
