Consider another option

Just talked to Kawaski, They said the first (per dealer) bikes should start shipping on the 24th. I told him my wife and I are # 4 and 5 on the list at my dealer. He told me I might want to consider another option. It is going to be sometime before the rest of the bikes ship. I asked him to define sometime. May, June, July, August ? He said " Maybe"
Oh Boy!!!!

Technically Kawi is shipping as stated - they never said how many more other than one per dealer though.

I'll hang in until mid June at the latest. If I don't have a bike by then I will wait until next year. I'll struggle by on my SV 650. I also have my tricked out Miata, so I'll get by this year as far as toys.

This is already a sales and public relations nightmare for Kawasaki. The bike is on the cover of almost every major motorcycle publication on the planet. The reviews have all been fantastic. For them not to have bikes shipping is costing them major sales. Not to mention the egg on their face.
If this is true then there was, or is, something major that was wrong with the bike that they needed to change on the factory floor. I hope this is another silly misinformation rumor.
Kawi is a huge company skilled in mfg. They even make their own robotics. They have their own global shipping line. The ought to be able to produce ZX-14's in spade's.
The first of June will be the absolute latest for me. If so I'll be one ornery motherfucker.

Think positively for a minute here...

Mebbe the bikes were retuned for more power - and to do that required changing a coupla sensors, that ain't gonna happen on a few hundred bikes overnight.

I dunno what the hold-up was/is about but it would make sense that the action taken will be to future 14 owners benefit.

Mebbe not, but until some official word comes down bout the dealio - I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

It's hard to think positively when it it is another beautiful spring day and the only thing I can do is drive the Buick to the local bike hangout coffee shop.

...Kawasaki makes awesome hypersport streetbikes...always have...you'd think that after the original ZX-12R top-speed wars fiasco back in 2000 that they'd get it right this time no matter what it is...hey, I'm a die-hard Kawasaki fan since my first bike in 1975 (a Kawasaki), but it seems Kawasaki sucks in the "get it right and get it right out there NOW" department...or maybe they're enjoying this fan frenzy....

1974 Kawasaki Z1 900
1984 Kawasaki 900 Ninja
1985 Kawasaki 550 GPZ
1990 Kawasaki ZX10 Ninja
2000 ZRX 1100
Now ZX-14
These are all the Kawi's I have owned. There are more but that's a different post. Now I am going to be one of the few new owners of the coveted ZX-14s out in a few days. Sure with time there will be more 14s produced and sold and soon there will be something faster and better but for a rare few of us that REALLY LOVE BIKES the next few weeks of riding and going to our favorite coffee/ beer houses or to the local bike/car hangout on Sat nite we will be the guy standing next to the bike they all want to hear about. They will want to know everything How fast, how does it handle, how much $ (don't ever tell them) Gentleman and ladies this is Christmas Eve for those of us that know there is no Santa for us anymore. Just fast bikes and cars and balmy summer nights. Whatever you pay for it is a bargain at twice the price. So pay up and ride. Have fun!! Ride fast and ride safe. Gene

In the grand corporate scheme of things the 14 must represent a gnats ass of potential sales profit. I think mega corps like Kawi and honda only stay in litre+ sportbikes and racing out of tradition and pride. Doesn't affect the bottom line dividends an iota. Consequently Mr. CEO aint losing too much sleep.

I for one am liking this delay. People are getting impatient, soon will be buying other bikes. 14's will be overproduced by september. rebates will be had in January on left over stock.

I just went to our dealer, and they stated that they ordered 3, but have had zero deposits down on them. If I go in tonight and put $500 down, I get first dibs on each bike that comes in, and also get $500 off the MSRP.

I might just do this based on all the comments in this thread, otherwise I might not get one until fall.

The only other bike I would have is the new m109r and its as hard to buy as the 14. All incoming, around here, already have firm deposits and the dealers are asking over msrp. Jezz.

Not around here, there are two on the dealership floor marked at $12.1K, one silver and one a really dark blue, almost purple. He cannot get rid of them.

I checked with my dealer on Tuesday and asked him if he would get more than one bike. He was quite sure that the six he ordered from Kawasaki would arrive towards the end of May as promised.
