Kawasaki's 2006 ZX1400A6F/L Ninja ZX-14 Delivery Schedule Update"

Guys, for what it's worth, I went to my dealer today to have another bike looked at. While there, the owner came in and handed me an "Information Bulletin" from Kawi. w/the above subject title. I tried to scan and copy it, but I'm afraid I was unsuccessful. In any event, the contents:

"This bulletin is to provide current releasing information for the new 2006 ZX 1400A6F/L Ninja ZX-14.

This exciting new model has undergone a lengthy and exacting inspection process to ensure that all components meet the high standards for excellence and performance that are expected for this flagship model. Any needed adjustments are being made before the product is released to dealerships.

You'll be seeing the most powerful streetbike in the world very soon. We expect to begin releasing one unit per dealer late next week, although initially color availability will be limited.

Watch your K-Dealer Weekly Mail for additional releasing information that is more specific to your dealership."

It seems to be a legitimate bulletin from Kawi, w/all the appropriate trademark, headers, etc. included. Furthermore, the GM there, whom I've known for years, told me yesterday the bikes were in the country, they just weren't releasing them yet. He said it was for some "reliability issue," but he didn't know what. He said today that the crews were working on the bikes right on through Thanksgiving. His dad is an engineer w/Kawi. (I've known this for years, also.). He says they're really pushing to get the bikes out. They were "repairing/adjusting" (whatever) 80-90/day.

That's the story I got. I trust the sources. We'll see if Kawi. can keep up w/the plan. Better than they have thus far, anyway...

You must have faith, my son. You didn't really expect to buy a brand new model in the hyper/bragging rights' class w/o a hitch, or two. Have you never done this before? Patience, man!

Me thinks, maybe the rear cowl wasn't fitting as tight as it should, a minor cosmetic thing.

Either that or the whole engine is FUCKED UP BAD!

I remember some one posted a while back that they had heard on good authority that they were finding excessive camshaft wear on the first press bikes. This latest bit of news lends some credence that they are fixing bikes 'state side' that have already left the factory.

It would be nice to know exactly what the issue is, obviously it is serious enough that it prevented the launch of these bikes in March versus April/May.

Why would the fix them here and where would they fix them??? in some warehouse? would they not let the dealers fix them ?? something does not sound right ... There is no way they are fixing the bike at some Kawi warehouse... Where would the get the tools , parts and man power to do that? Good motorcycle wrenchs don't just grow on trees ....I could see something small like a computer up grade...Just plug and play and off the the dealer ... But going into a motor and making repairs...No way .... The work to uncrate and recrate alone would be crazy....If anything i think the bike may not have passed EPA standards and EPA will and can make them fix that before it gets to the dealer...That does happen to some import cars........

I have to agree with your comments on this, if there was anything seriously wrong, they would have to send them back to the factory................certainly if it was serious enough to split the cases on the engine. The logistics required as you say to do any major work would be very hard to pull together on short notice.

Again, rather than our endless speculation, it would be nice for Kawasaki to come clean as to what specific issue is causing the delay. It would certainly kill the wild rumours. The way the letter is worded, Kawasaki will not even come clean with their own dealers!

From the original post........'They were "repairing/adjusting" (whatever) 80-90/day."................

This number of bikes being repaired/adjusted would indicate they are are not having to go very deep into the bike to do what ever they are doing, can't see it could be anything internal if they are doing up this many bikes each day.

I have a copy of Road Bike magazine from a few months back. They had the compression listed as 12.7:1, now it's 12.0:1. Maybe they were really delayed leaving Japan while they changed head gaskets???

All just speculation.

I heard that the CC's were overfilled by 1/2 quart of oil due to a revolutionary new aerodynamic sight glass and must be sent to Muzzy for proper setup.

btw- I did not buy my FASTER RED '00 until '01, so with the extra $2,000, I added some custom bits to my 99 COPPER BUSA!

Also just speculation Brock and Muzzy said they where way too rich , maybe they address the problem for EPA reasons? or they didn't want the low dyno numbers of rich motor...
With all the hype about this thing being a Busa beater they wanted to make sure we got what they told us we where getting ....

OK here is a thought, how would I reduce HP so I know the bike will kick major ass Yet slow it up some to keep the Gov't happy. Easy Remove the Air filter and put in a more layered filter. Simple change but a time consumimg one. Look if the testers were getting 50 MPG I should be able to see 50-55 (oh, this will earn my Nerd-boy status) MPG consistanly. If I approch 60 that would answer my question. A more restrictive filter will in fact save gas and at the same time reduce HP. Time will tell for sure.

Apparently, addressing minor issues on models, new models in particular, while stateside, is not that uncommon. I passed it all on for anyone interested. Either way, it's aggravating. But, better to hear something, than nothing. Certain pieces fit together pretty nicely.
