Techmounts control mount for ZX-14
Hey guys - just in case anyone else needs radar protection as much as I do, I've taken the leap and got an "expermental" Techmount Control Mount (model 31001T, black) for my upcoming ZX-14. I'll be test fitting it as soon as I have a bike to screw it to and let you know how well it works.
I've talked over the options with Dee and Mike at Techmounts, aka HighGear Specialties (VERY nice people, by the way!!). I didn't like the placement of the stem mount, because to get the V1 clear of the electronics and metal obstructions (gauges, info center, etc), it would have to be all jacked up like Fish's camera was at Vegas. That would block the gauges and prevent a 150+ mph "tuck" in my opinion.
Mike was able to get a close look at the controls of the ZX-14 at Daytona, so he's of the opinion that this control mount will work fine. The kit arrived today (just in case I needed it for this weekend), here's a pic of what's included.

I'll post more once I have a real live ZX-14...

Yes, Dee is very nice.
Got the stem mount from the Vegas pictures last week.
Additionally I ordered mount kits / quick adaptors for Garmin GPS and vidcam.
Now I have all here....except the bike.

Same here, credit given. I also emailed them fish's picture of the stem mount attached to the 14 in Vegas - they didn't have a copy and couldn't easily find it in the forums. I had them to do a forum search, but that only works for members, which they aren't

ZZR's version is like the one that fish used in Vegas, it's Techmount's "stem mount". I'm not sure about this setup for radar on the 14 because the radar would be behind the instrument panel (radar signals don't pass through metal or electronics well). Also, if you did radar there and jacked it way up like fish's camera in this picture, you wouldn't be able to get into much of a "tuck" for speed:

My version is called a "control mount" and it mounts via the brake or clutch lever's mounting screws. This method gets the radar off-center so you don't have gauges & lcd display for the V1 to aim through. My brother has this style on his XX and it works well:

But they are available... mine's sitting on my desk right now. Just not sure if it'll fit or not... but Mike @ Techmounts was pretty confident that it will.
Now if we only had 14's... or maybe that's what you were referring to

I'll wait for the bike to show up. Then get the accessories.
Was it my Blue 14 or your Blue 14 that Leno grabbed?

Yup, that's them.
I wish that ZX-12R "mirror mount" worked on the 14, but I don't think the mirror mount points are exposed on the inside like the 12's are.

I don't think so. Keep in mind that purchasing from Techmounts is purchasing from the "manufacturer", so it's doubtful that they are in a position to discount prices anyway without risking undercutting their dealers. Dealers, on the other hand, may be able to discount - but I doubt this is a high margin product, so it wouldn't be much.
Maybe a group buy is in order once the 14's are on the streets?

Just keep telling them you saw their product here... perhaps they may be persuaded to give a member discount? Enough calls to them could result in that.... although zermatt is correct, you are purchasing them direct and IMHO the product is reasonably priced for the high level of finish and engineering that goes into it...
