ZerMatt,
As God is my witness I called Kawasaki customer service and asked (in a polite way) if they would be able to give me a time frame when these puppies will appear at the dealer. He said, "They were Just released". The smartass that I am I said, "Does that mean Weeks or days" and he replyed, "Should be days, dealers in Florida have already sold bikes so it should be days for me???" Look I was not going to say anything because I know the 2 dealers who already sold theirs during bike week , and he is correct. At the same time I did not want to be Bishoped (no offense ment there). There will be about 20 mins from the time my dealer calls me til the time my butt is parked in front in front of his shop. Any day but Saturday that is. Here is where you can give me the business, I have a feeling it will be this week. I'll post an I'm on the way e-mail as soon as I hear for real.
Good luck all.
Right there with ya zx! I really do think we are beginning to see a faint light at the end of the tunnel. I'm not going to get my hopes up too high, but I'm crossing my fingers that I'll have a bike before the 7th and my ride to Arkansas. I'm just trying to figure out how I'm going to get enough "break in" miles on the ODO to get a quick oil change in before leaving on the 1200 +/- mile trip.

I hope that *all* members who get "the call" from their dealer soon will also post a quick "I'm leaving for my dealership now" email before they bolt from their computer. I know I will, and I'll follow-up that with a real-live picture of the beast asap. Still not sure if it'll be a picture of *me* anywhere near the bike now... 238mph or his brother Greg migh re-incarnate to give me a hard time about my "form". Maybe a ZX-14 t-shirt with my middle finger prominently pointed at the camera will work better for this forum... seems like fish has got his finger up in 90% of the pictures I've seen of him

Matt, take it out for a serious hard romp, burn like 200 miles in 1 1/2- 2hrs..
Good long empty straight road, and stomp on that mother!
Broken in right!
dump the oil and filter good to go!

That's probably about how it'll work. If it comes in during the week next week, I'll have to see about logging a couple of 50-mile (round trip) commutes, then a couple 100 mile rides after work, then do the oil change before heading for AR.

Quick update for those in Florida. As it was explained to me once the bike hit the LA port it will take a week to 10 days to arrive in Florida. The rep was not sure if they go to Chicago first or just be distrubuted. It also depends which dealer you buy from the smaller dealers tend to have a 4-7 day lag over the larger dealer. I suspect the April 6th day is still a good just some will get the 14 sooner than others. Is there any advantage in financing with the dealer?

Occasionally a dealer will "throw something in" or discount an extended warranty if you finance through them because they receive a kickback for the finance deal. Probably a fraction of a point or something...

Good point Matt,
I know that our finance dept does not make a dime unless you finance. I'll have a check just in case. Hey I do all my own work such as fork oil,oil and filter, shocks, brake pads and brake and clutch fluid, coolant and spark Plug changes. If I do this will I void the warranty? Matt thanks in advance you really seem to be on top of your game and I'm not so sure if I do all my own work will it screw anything up?

It's always been my understanding that as long as you don't alter something that would be covered under warranty (like open the engine case, etc), they can't void your warranty. I would suggest that you buy a maintenance manual and do everything by the book, as well as document everything that you do - oil change intervals, keep receipts, etc - they can't say that you didn't properly maintain the bike.

I could be wrong, but I believe there has been precedent set that says that a warranty provider cannot void your warranty for modifying your vehicle (including doing your own maintenance, installing aftermarket goodies, etc) unless they can prove that your work caused the failure in question. As long as you do things right and stay away from the sophisticated systems (engine controls, electrical system, internal engine components, etc), you should stay in the clear.

Now, one other thing to note - and you probably already know this from being in "the business" - is that it will help you to have a good relationship with your dealer. A good relationship goes a LONG way toward them going to bat for you regarding warranty repairs.

Thanks Matt,
I'm not so sure about opening up the engine, can't check the valves very well if you don't open her up. I will have a shop manual can't live without the one I have now. I leave my bike stock, I'm weird that way (aside from the centerstand) but I'm leaning towards no extended warranty. Besides I'm pretty easy on the engine, More of a sports tourer than sportstrack person.
Here's another question that you may know, with the VFR the valve check is 16,000 miles. I believe that if the valves are not talking, I'm not burning oil, I'm not burning more fuel than normal and most importaint performance is not suffering I will let the valves go til say 48,000 miles. In the case of the VFR when I did check them they were perfect so, with the Honda if it aint broke why fix it?? I'm wondering (and assuming) the 2006 engine is as good as the 2002 VFR engine.

Rob - I think adjusting the valves would be fine, I was thinking about more serious "opening the engine" like splitting the case or something major like that. If you are leaning toward the extended warranty, I would talk the whole thing over with your dealer (the owner preferably) and see what he says. He would be your biggest road block if he didn't think you were maintaining the bike properly.

As for valve adjustment on your VFR, I'm clueless. I've only had 2 bikes, one was traded at 11,000 miles, the other (my ZZR) will be going away at 21 or 22,000. I'm bad... I haven't adjusted the valves on either... and the ZZR could probably use it right about now.

If I'm not mistaken the ZZR1200 is basicly a slightly updated ZX-11. The engine has some updates but is pretty much was the ZX-11 engine. Not meaning to sound negative but that engine was designed in the 80's so valve adjustments are a way of life, if I could go 12,000 miles on mine I was thrilled. The ZX12R's engine was a new design still a 1990's design. Now the 14 that puppy was designed in the eggs or 2000.

Yeah, both of my bikes have had the same engine... the first was a ZRX1200. I'm sure they both could have used a valve adjustment. I've even got the service manual, but I've never manually adjusted valves. I'm used to "cars" and those hydraulic valves pretty much take care of themselves
