Target Date 4/6/06 & ?

I just got word that April 6th is the NEXT target date. I'm not here trying to PO everyone but that was the latest word and I just wanted to pass it on. As I was talking I wondered if the ZX-14 will carry any type of recording device that records the last couple seconds of running? I think Suzuki has been this for a couple years. If so maybe this is the hold up??? I seriously would like to know the answer to this my thinking is Yes it will.
OK Here is my question on Apr 8th I have a 1000 mile trip planned. If by some act of God we have our bike on April 6th what's the worst that can happen if I run the engine 1200 miles on the break-in oil? I suspect nothing I tell my guests who buy new cars to run the break-in oil 7-10,000 miles and I've heard no negative feedback. Keep in Mind the Hybrid Civic carries a 1.3 liter engine (I laugh as I write that). Well lets hope I'll be able to find out.
As an Optismistic Schmuck I was told the ZX10 made it a week earlier than scheduled so lets hope the 14 will as well. Lets hope eh.

That sounds like a reasonable dae.

And are you talking something like ODBC? As far as I know (and I've been in most of them on the dyno over the yeas) none of the bikes have a way of displaying the engine's previous running state. With closed loop systems, this could very well change for the future. And with regards to break-in mileage / procedures...I'm gonna cede to the recommendations in the owner's manual.

With regards to the shop manual, I usually have the dealer throw it in as part of the deal. If he don't have it yet, I just have him do an IOU for one to me.

If you have a COMPETENT dealership to work with, have the valves checked and the throttle bodies sync'd at your first service.

My dealer told me 42.000km.

Wow, 26,000 miles/ 42,000 Kms that means only once a year Swreet. Most of the time I only check if I really have too, but that's icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.
02 VFR just crossed 130,000 km yesterday and carries a 26,000 kms check.
Dam you just made my day.

Just got off the phone with Dreyer Motorsports in Indy. Called to ask if I had my 14 yet. Told me that they get theirs in two weeks. Also told me to fax my paper work, and he'll beat the price where I have the money down by $300. hhhmmmmmmmm

No, My handle on ST is VFR 980002 meaning I owned a 1998 red VFR, 2000 Canadian Blue VFR and my current bike the 2002 VFR again from Canada in Black. Later becoming blue after a Hi-siding crash. OK ZX61114 means I owned a 1993 ZX-6 pumped about 56K/90,000 km, went to My favorite bike a 1991 ZX-11 and owned that until after a long day of work about 98F/37C outside stuck in traffic having 170 degree heat blow on me I dam near passed out and thought that's enough of this and the VFR dual radaitor system was too good to believe so I jumped to Honda and have been there until NOW. So here I am waiting for my Blue ZX-14, thus ZX61114 although I'm thinking of changing it to something better. I'm known for owning hi miie/km motorcycles and the ZX-14 will be no different. Maybe "Kilo-mileZX" hows that? Anyway that's my story.

You won't hurt anything running the (Lord help me if I said "break-in") oil for your trip. Just keep an eye on the correct level, and add if necessary. Low oil levels can hurt an engine more than say, oil running a few thousand miles over recommended intervals.

You could also change oil on your trip.

Just called my primary dealer, he called his Kawi rep then called me back.

The rep confirmed that the bikes are in fact, in the LA warehouse. He also told me that they have been "released" according to their online tracking system, but no ship or ETA dates are confirmed. It also confirmed to him that he has been allocated one black and one red for April delivery.

He said that he should know more information on Thursday after 9AM pacific time. His rep said that they most likely will have left the warehouse by then and they may have a firm ETA for our regional warehouse in Irving, TX.

Still nothing concrete, but at least it's something...

Fasterthanstink,
I'm doing an Ironbutt 1000 with my brother, no I won't have time to change the oil that day. I WILL NOT carry my cruise which is a pain. I'm the kind of person who will be changing gears and speeds quite a bit in that first 600 miles, keeps the oil flowing to places that need lube. After the 7000 mile oil change, I'll switch over to syntheic. 1000 mile + 6000 mile I actually go by the manual and ride 6000 between oil changes. The VFR goes 8000 mile between oil changes no problems what so ever. Note: engine temp will heat up more in the 6-8000 mile range not a biggie but a note.

ZerMatt,
As God is my witness I called Kawasaki customer service and asked (in a polite way) if they would be able to give me a time frame when these puppies will appear at the dealer. He said, "They were Just released". The smartass that I am I said, "Does that mean Weeks or days" and he replyed, "Should be days, dealers in Florida have already sold bikes so it should be days for me???" Look I was not going to say anything because I know the 2 dealers who already sold theirs during bike week , and he is correct. At the same time I did not want to be Bishoped (no offense ment there). There will be about 20 mins from the time my dealer calls me til the time my butt is parked in front in front of his shop. Any day but Saturday that is. Here is where you can give me the business, I have a feeling it will be this week. I'll post an I'm on the way e-mail as soon as I hear for real.
Good luck all.
