Scary that the Amber Alert banner actually works...

Anyone notice that there is an Amber Alert right now?

Anyone click on it?

Anyone here in Tennessee?

Kinda scary that it's real.

We had an Amber Alert here in North Texas last night, but I never saw it come up on that codeamber.org site. I wonder where they get their notifications from.

Ours had a very sad ending:

A missing 5-year-old boy was found dead outside his home Thursday morning.

Johnson County Sheriff Bob Alford said Anthony Turner was discovered in a stock tank behind the boy's house.

Alford said the child apparently rode his bicycle into the tank and drowned.

Search crews using grappling hooks found the boy's body at about 10 a.m. Alford said. He said the hooks pulled the bicycle out of the water.

"And he was still holding on to the bicycle," he said. "The family is naturally very distraught."

Before the discovery, an Amber Alert had been issued for the boy.

A relative had reported that Turner was missing from the area of East Renfro and FM 917 on Wednesday and was last seen riding his red-and-blue bicycle at about 4:30 or 5 p.m.

Law enforcement and volunteers searched for the boy overnight and at one point included the use of helicopters.

(BTW - for the non-texans out there, a "stock tank" is rancher-speak a small, man-made pond.)

They are guessing no because he was still holding onto the bike handlebars when they pulled him out.

There are soooo many good reasons to get your kids into swimming lessons when they are very young. My brother put his son in a neighborhood swim program when he was 3 or 4. Way too many children die because they can't swim, and there are lots of swimming pools around here.

There were lots of tots & toddlers there at my nephew's swim lessons... they all seemed to have a great time. Part of the problem is that many of them have *no fear* when it comes to water, so it's good to educate them early. Graduation was fun too... they actually had a party
