The insurance cost is so high that
(other reasons exists, too)
the aquirement of the ZZR1400 has been postponed
Other reasons: the bike is also very expensive here
The gasoline is very expensive here
- and this babe is gonna be a thursty camel
I could afford the bike, but buying a shirt is too much

Funny, I thought that because it was a ZZR in the EU and not a ZX, the insurance classification would be lower? In Canada, it would be 1/4 of the cost of insuring when they classify as a S/T rather than a SS bike.

Naah!
It's power/weight ratio (or was weight/power)
that stating 1.4.2006 is used by all insurance companies in Finland
Also age affects a little, only +5% for under 22 years
It should 2,5 fold based on statistics

I think the EU is a bit smarter than most US insurance companies... they can see right through a "name" and rate a bike for it's power, capabilities, and intended purporse.
The perfect example is that SF rates my ZZR as a "street" bike, thus gets reasonably low rates, but the ZX-14 is rated as a "sport" bike and gets higher rates. They just don't get it that both bikes share the same blood and are used for the same purposes... I sure wish Kawi had called this the ZZR1400 for us too!
And we wait...

Curious what people are paying currently.
I have USAA - but they don't insure motorcycles anymore - they "shipped" me to Progressive and was told 2200 full coverage - Hey, I'm 43, license to drive motorcycles now for over 20 years, perfect record, etc.... Did some shopping around and got GMAC to cover me for 642 per yer (full coverage, with 250 deductible).
Anyone beat that on ZX-14 - I haven't checked GEICO yet - willing to try.

Mug, if you read the whole post, Geico sounds a lot cheaper, but here's what I got for my ZX-14:
Allstate: $2800/year
State Farm: $680/year
I have other vehicles with State Farm so I didn't call Geico. What's funny is my KLR650 cost me about $620/year even though it has about 1/5 the horsepower of the ZX-14.
I'm 32 yrs old and have a clean driving record. You guys should mention this info with quotes as it has a HUGE affect on price. When I turned 26 my insurance for a Trans Am ram air went from $225/month to $120/month.

Actually with GEICO - have had the bike since June 22nd - $600 per year - (43, married, clean record) - USAA wouldn't insure me because they no longer carry motorcycles - they outsource to Progressive - MAJOR RIPOFF ARTISTS!!!!

I do liability and underinsured motorist only, even on the Bosses. The farthest I get from my motorcycles is when they are in the garage and I'm not home. Otherwise I'm rarely more than 100' from my bikes. If it were a crash, I care about my body, not the bike.

$28 a month is insanely cheap. I'd like to recommend EVERYONE get comprehensive. It covers a lot of things you don't think about and it's VERY CHEAP. I've had 4 comprehensive claims that really saved me.
1. '94 Trans Am caught fire while I was driving due to distributer going out. Mechanic told me it should be ok for a couple days. Got more than I paid for the car, $14,500
2. '90 300ZX had batter improperly installed by Wal-Mart, did $2,500 damage to wiring harness and computer, State Farm paid because it was human error. Was a couple months after the install so I couldn't prove it was Wal-Mart, but they didn't take the spacer off the bottom of the battery.
3. Had '96 CBR600 stolen. Morons ran out of gas and didn't think about reserve so they ditched it a mile from my house. $3,500 damage.
4. When in was in high school I hit a dog, brakes locked up and I hit a culvert. $4,000 or so damage.
Also, comprehensive clames usually don't affect your rates since they are considered to be out of the owner's control. Also covers hail damage, vandalism, someone knocking over bike, etc. Mileage may vary, talk to your agent.

I'm payin about half of what I was payin for my 05 GSXR1000. Roughly $1200 and was surprised but somehow I think this bike is classified as a sports tourer. This is in toronto so insurance here is extremely high. If your under 25 riding a 600 expect to pay between $6000 to some quotes that i have heard from bike shops nearing $12,000 a year. INSANE and there is jak shit we can do about it!!!!

quote: This is directed at the Canadian members and in particular the Alberta members. Has anyone done any preliminanry shopping for insurance quotes for the '14?
I'm not sure if the insurance companires have any information on this bike yet (probably a good thing!) Of course they love it when they hear the magic words........'Ninja' & ZX............you can here the 'kaching sound' of a cash register
I'm guessing they will want a full alarm system. I gather Scorpio is working on a ZX 14 specific harness for their system already.
I don't know about the 14, but I know a few people (all differant bikes) including lizard and I that use State Farm, they beat out Primimm by hundreds, and we don't have our trucks with them, just the bikes, although, they did quote an even lower price on the bikes if we moved everything with them, but their truck insurance was just too high for the switch. They did not require an alarm, but did give a reduction if you have one. Give em a call.
