Luggage strap hooks!!
I was dissapointed to see the pre-pro bikes at the shows had no hint of luggate tie-downs - I was wondering how anyone that used these bikes to take overnight rides would attach their rear-seat bag via bungies or whatever. Then, taking a closer look I noticed that the bikes at the press intro have hooks for tie-straps. Woo hoo!!
Here's a picture of a euro version, hook on the right - hook can be seen just above the license plate lamp assy:

Here's a picture from the press intro - the hook is at the right edge of the metal reflector bracket:

Look like the hooks are placed under the tail in such a way that and you have to put some cloth or clear mactac on the plastic to avoid marking the paint. I use clear mactac before going on a long trip with my 10R so that the paint doesn't take a beating from the bag on the seat that I use for luggage (as it rubs on the cowl)...PITA The Busa has hooks beside the seat to avoid this issue.

fba - What's "mactac"? I've used low-tack clear tape and that clear 3M shelf-paper before with pretty good luck. That will definitely be a must with this bike.
Never looked at the tie-downs on a 'busa before, I'll have to check them out. Did the swing back under the seat when not in use?

It's what you're talking about...clear vinyl like the 3M shit. They sell for a buck a roll (24"* 60") at the Dollarama stores here in Canuckland.
On the Busa, the hooks are bolted to the frame and they protrude out beside the bottom of the seat (4 hooks -- 2 front & 2 back). They're a billet style polished metal stud with a small black plastic cover on the end of the stud which covers the center bolt. They don't retract and don't need to either. That was easy and sweet looking...very handy, never dropped anything from them and I used to carry 50LB+ bags filled with luggage. Preferable to fugly side bags!
On my 10R, I lift the seat and place a sort of adjustable tiedown from under to over, to wrap around the luggge (2 tiedowns); they come off only if you lift the seat and work well, but had to install the self adhesive vinyl before the trip each time to prevent marking as I had mentioned...

Ok - now I think I remember seeing those. Probably similar to the CBR1100XX tie-downs... little metal spool-looking things. Those would be quite handy.
My ZZR was "ok" for tying things down. I'd hook to the helmet lock on the front-right side, the "lift" handle on the front left side, then to the passenger grab-handles in the rear. No straps ever got close to the plastic and it worked really well. My Marsee tailbag never had a problem holding on - even at 150+ speeds

Not a bad idea to use the clear 3M film on front edges of your fairing lowers to keep the paint from getting chewed from crap thrown up from the front tire as well.

No, but a "sport-touring" bike does

On a contrary, the bigger the better so your weekend luggage is there with you, wherever you go.
