INSURANCE i'd like to know if you guys have an idea of the price for insurence on this bike. the fact that they name it zx14 in canada the price should be around 1600$ canadian dollars and the last zzr 1200 cause they name it zzr that the insurence was 350$ and the zx12 was 1500$
it pisses off a bite to pay 4 times the price only for letters...

I did some checking around..for Tennessee...best I found is $775 with Liberty Mutual, $500 deductable....they have my car and home and I'm 50.
Geico was around $1300...Progressive was around $1600!!!
I'm thinking about paying cash and just pay the $80 for liability ins.

State Farm quoted me $1002/yr for full coverage on the ZX14. I'm currently paying about $450/yr on the ZZR1200. I've been with them 18+ years, clean record (thanks to the lovely "deferred adjudication" option for speeding tickets in TX) and have a house and 4 cars insured with them, so my price probably has some discounts applied.
I'm also thinking about going the cash route and doing liability only... I'd only ever file a collision claim for a motorcycle wreck of the bike was busted in half or something anyway.
Progressive was about $940/yr for my ZZR 4 years ago, BikeLine (Markel) was about $850. I got a Progressive quote for the ZX14, but I don't remember the exact number... seemed like it was close to $1800/yr though. State Farm will continue to get my business.

Hey Guys,
Here's a suggestion. I have always paid cash for my bikes. I carry full coverage for 6 months during riding season ( May - Oct ) and liability only for off-season ( Nov - Apr ). As has already been mentioned you can go the liability only option if you pay cash.

State Farm is quite often the most resonable but you will need to give them a car to insure to.

Honestly, the next bike I'm considering buying isn't the 14. As everyone has seen, the insurance price on it is going to be ... breathtaking. Next Kawi is gonna be the ZX650R. At a MSRP of $6299, that's what a ZX14 owner will pay for four year's insurance...

State farm doesn't look at VIN numbers to categorize a motorcycle like many other insurance companies do, they go by bike "categories". When my agent quoted me, the questions asked were:
What's the bike's name? (ZX-14 Ninja... unfortunately)
What's the sticker price? ($11,500)
How much value does it have today? (your call on this one - they are really asking "how much do you want it insured for?")
How many CC's does it have? (1,400)
What category is it? (sport)
** The category question is what makes the difference. Your answer (according to them) should be "sport" if the bike includes ZX or Ninja in it's name. If not, like my ZZR, it can be called a "sport touring" and get rates that are about half of the "sport" category.
My '02 ZZR1200, was able to be categorized as a "sport touring" bike, so my insurance was $42.70/mo ($512.40/yr). When I got the ZX-14 Ninja quoted, it will cost $83.50/mo ($1,002/yr) because it's a "sport" bike.
Exact coverages/deductables that I used for each quote:
Bodily Injury (25/50)
Property Damage (25)
PIP (2500)
Collision (1000)
Comp (0) <-- this is the sweetest part of state farm... no deductable for comp coverage, and it's cheap
Uninsured (25/50/25)

Actually Bergie its 293 dollars a year with 100/250 deducts. Care to place a little money on it? I dont talk bullshit on things, and I find it rather offensive that your basically calling me a liar.. But just to prove you wrong, I'll get a copy of it and post it for all the naysayers like yourself. Just because you pay more for insurance, doesn't mean I do...

Yes I have State Farm, and yes I will put $ on it.
I am married, perfect record, and been with State Farm for many years including multi-car, bike, home owners and personal umbrella policies.
My ZX12R policy is $231 every 6 months for liability only with 250K/500K bodily injury, 100K property, with $100 deductible for comprehensive and $250 ded for uninsured motorists
There is no way you're paying 293 a year for full coverage. I'd like to see your policy so I can show it to my agent if it's true that you pay $293 a year for full coverage with 100/250 deductibles.

I'm not going to call anyone a liar, but I sure would like to see that policy so I can take a copy (with personal information removed of course) and have my agent do similar magic...

I can say from experience that it makes a huge difference in your rates depending on where you live .
