Here's a small, and by all means neitther complete nor accurate explanation of rankings and traffic.
Although accurate traffiic ranking can only be achieved by server sided software, several third party websites measure traffic and uptime on the web.
Netcraft.com is considered by many to be one of the most impartial, while Alexa.com is considered less impartial as it depends on it's users to be running an Alexa toolbar, which most savvy users consider to be spyware and delete. Alexa rankings are usually not considered to be terribly accurate as they represent a lowest common denomentator of users who know nothing about computers, the Internet, or spyware.
Both sites rank Google as #1, with a Universe (all websites online) of approximately 71,000,000 websites.
Netcraft:
kawasaki.com: 161,522
http://www.bikeland.org: 3,188,178 with a peak ranking of 82,516
zx14.net has no netcraft ranking whatsoever
Alexa:
Traffic Rank for kawasaki.com: 21,052
Traffic Rank for bikeland.org: 377,166
Traffic Rank for zx14.net: 1,739,548
If you want to cheat, you can install the Alexa toolbar on your computer and visit your site all the time, but any ad agency will see through this. You may have already done this as you have a ranking on Alexa.
You can see that freek and I both uninstalled the Alexa toolbar and bikeland's ranking dropped 400,000 spots even though our actuall traffic has increased daily. This is where the "we're # 1" thing wears thin. It is obvious to posters and readers of websites when a site is busy or slow. All you need to do is look at the amount of topics on the page and how quickly they move or have responses.
Beyond "the obvious" , traffic is measured server side. We dont get paid for "clicks" or "hits", to dispell any myths. We have a very simple ad rate system based on monthly rates. We have a few supporters, and we are very happy that they have stuck around and helped us grow to where we are today.
The truth of the matter is that without companies like Muzzy and Orient Express, we wouldnt be here.

quote: Facts?? What facts? I remember ANOTHER ZX12 site boasting about "ratings" and how that owner valued them. Even though as a whole the contributions, events, and overall knowledge base was greater on this site. What was even funnier was the fact that we could log on a vote that turd of a site down in the ratings....lol... just because we can.
Claiming your #1 and backing it up are 2 entirely different things.
Will you site draw folks from thousands of miles just to ride with a few folks?
Will you be able to draw 70+ bikes at a premier event?
Can your site sustain relationships between posters, even if they dont own a bike related to your site?
Im going to guess NO.
Get over yourself and your google stats. The LAST freaking place I look for bike information is google.
At the first hint of protest.... you give up like a pussy and ask for your account to be deleted.
I dont think I want to be apart of an online community that has a pussy for an owner...let alone pay $15 for one.
You really should get over yerself..
What kind of bike do you ride now? What about previous bikes since 1999?

I am sure we will meet and the first one is on me. I going back to my little space in the world. Not running because I am scared or can't ride or any other stupid reason like that. It's just not good business to continue in the manner this thread is going. Keep in touch and much success to you and your efforts here.

Right now I have a 2005 ZZR1200. Been riding for 21 years. Started on a GT550, then onto a Ninja 250 onto a GSXR1100, ZX-11 and now a ZZR1200 and soon to be a Turbo Charged ZX-14. Who am I, just a regular guy who loves motorcycles and keeps out of trouble.

You know, he probably has as many or nearly as many posts on this site now, in just one day, as on his own site! Unless his own posts comprise an unseemly proportion of the 581 posts on his site.

Man, all this hoopla around these posts that have pretty much been instigated by the owner of some other board that cost money to join have really inspired me to stop what I am doing and surf over and take a look! Nothing like some fake controversy to stir up the web traffic!
Not.
Not surfing over. Not paying 15 bucks. Not concerned about your web traffic.
If you have advertisers they should be concerned that they are entrusting their brand names and good will to you. For some reason and it could be unreasonable-ness on my part, I find you and your posts and your guerilla marketing methods in this thread offensive.
I wouldn't buy from someone who advertised with you.

Ok but let's just say you WERE taking, say...30 or 40 guys to Cali to test drive the new ZX-14.
Surely he wouldn't be one of them would he?
I mean if you were, and no one is saying you are......

in all fairness, Greg/Riding Addicted did not start this thread or this topic, but came to defend his site when it was being bashed (accurately or not, i really have no idea). but greg, making hard to back claims like #1 in a thread like this is asking for trouble cause u _know_ people are gonna call u on it and liekly will argue against the claim even if you have a good explanation for the statement, which IMHO you do have a syntactically and symantically valid basis for and i applaud you for putting the effort into achieving that, but it's a bit of a straw man.

A quote from ZX14.net on why there is a fee:
''Secondly, it filters out those not truly interested in the ZX-14, to avoid flame wars and non-sense arguements by key board commandos, which are not tolorated on this forum at all! To date we have had not a single dispute and we want to keep it that way! Our system is working great!''
Not a single dispute? Where's the fun in that? That's just unAmerican. lol

The fee is just a little high if they want to keep off trolls. I don't think they would even be willing to pay a couple bucks.
It's not like they need $15 from everyone for the server costs with only 86 members.

I joined ZX14.net and glad I did. I'm not a rich man but come on, 15 bucks? I will spend that on beer and not blink an eye, no big deal there.
The nice thing about the site is that although there are only 86 members almost all of them have put bucks down on the 14. Everyone on the site is "very pasonate" about the ZX-14 and it is refereshing.
I also enjoy this site. Between the two I'm in ZX-14 heaven (or as close as you can get without a bike)
I can understand you questioning his claim of being "the number 1 zx-14 site" but you are way out of line with your personal attacks and name calling.
Geese, grow up. If you don't like the site don,t go there. America, remember?
Varooom
BTW: The troll thing must work. I haven't seen any of you "constant bashers" there, (you know who you are) nobody bitching about some other site. Just ZX-14 stuff. Its really kind of nice, $15.00 well spent.
