" 8.0 sec 1/4 mile on a prototype ZX-14 "

Last month (October) Kawasaki invited about thirty costomers (Kawasaki riders) for a Akashi factory visit.
In that day a Kawasaki rep told visitors that a good test rider posted 8.0 sec of 1/4-mile run on a prototype ZX14 so far while testing.

My friend Taka was there and told me that story. Drag racing is not very popular in Japan, but I suppose 8.0sec 1/4 mi is almost a fantasy for a production bike....??
That Kawasaki rep might have mistaken 9.0 for 8.0 but he surely said 8.0 repeatedly, Taka told me.
I don't know, but as a Kawasaki fan I hope delightful Spring is coming...

I would love to see it but that would be impossible, even for a pro-rider on a prepped stock wheelbase bike slammed. you would need 235 HP at the rear wheel, and this is all approx... that would be with a 150lb rider and a 450lb bike assuming all of this. if you add 50lb you would need 251RWHP...... now I would LOVE!!! to see this but I would be serious dough that it will not run 8.0's... If it does the Busa Shootout bikes will be Antiques........ and everysingle SBS rider will be on the new 14!!!
i am ready to see one go down the track for sure though....

Wow! I'm not a drag-racer, but that would be truly amazing, wouldn't it?

Maybe he meant "in the 8s"

Or, maybe they just forgot to convert from those metric seconds.

EDIT- Oops, MadMike typed faster.

...maybe he meant in the 9.8s...as when its casually assumed that a bike does a 9sec 1/4-mile, so we dispense with the secs and casually refer to the 10ths?.........I'm just guessin'.....

No way 8.0.. bone stock 8.99 would be collosal still not likley. I would buy a guess of 9.7 which would still be a great starting point before lowering , fine tuning with pipe ect ect..

Time will tell...

I'm with worm-hole (hmmmm....scary thought) on this one.
9.8s would not be out of the question. Also, dropping the "seconds" is not out of the norm either.

Ahhhh baby, this 14 is going to ROCK!!!

Varooom,

Grandpa is getting a 14!!!!

Of course the 12 and 10 can already do 9.8 (and considerably better) with a good enough rider, so what news would 9.8 be.

I agree 8.0 is absolutely impossible (in the year 2005 with a production bike with crank hp reported to be around 200 -- I'm not saying it will never be possible, as we once would have thought a 10.0 sec production bike impossible and certainly 9.0 impossible, but 9.0 will happen with a good enough, that is to say absolutely outstanding, rider and the right bike.)

I believe 8s as in 8.99...but 8.0? Not unless Jesus was riding and god was shooting it out of a cannon.

Im pretty sure the ETs quoted was a mistake...We'll see what the magazines do with it...But who the hell cares what a ZX14 will do in the 1/4 mile set up for street riding...

I know when I ride the 14 on the DragStrip it will be slammed and geared and will go at least 9.40s with stock pipes and no tricks...

Bring up a wonder wheel and see how many horsepower it takes to go 8 flat...Betcha it's around 350 or more...And on a stock wheelbase with a 190 or 200 tire?? Gimme a break...

Thank you for your opinions...

Taka also heared that Kawasaki's test riders often do burn-outs when standing acceleration test.
I guess the test bike might have been highly modified for speed, and for somesthing like testing machine durability, not a pre-production version...
But still I also agree 8 flat likely was a mistake.

Because at first I simply thought this topic better leave no icon, or it would match "?" icon.
But I left pointing " " by mistake and then started this topic.

No way 8.0 i highly doubt even 8.99 without locking out the rear suspension or at least straping it down 9.8 would be more like it or 9.80 that would be an awsome starting point.

9.7-9.8 is what I expect the magazine monkeys to do at full ride height.

Slower than that, well...all this hype is for nothing and it's the same as the busa and 12r.

I'm thinking lowered with a sprocket should go in the 8s too.

My 12 lowered, sprocket, pipe, no mirrors a other small stuff, 9.37s at sea level in
Florida... now that I'm up at 3500 geet, forget it!!!

I'd guess that mid 9's wouldn't be outta the questtion. Seems more than possible to me that the ZX-14 should be able to turn 9.5-9.6 in stock form with nothing done to it except a proper break in. Most all the liter bikes are turning high 9's (9.9) or so.
