So, you are not liking the big Ninja... well...

I think most people giving their opinions on the ZX-14 are overlooking what really matters about the new Kawasaki. Some people even think this bike should have been released 5 years ago, to confront the revolutionary Hayabusa, a speed fiend featuring incredible top speed, stability, peculiar looks, etc. Many threads all over the internet discuss the so-called top speed wars with the Hayabusa and its Kawasaki counterpart, the ZX-12 as top dogs, back in 2000. Kawasaki made their point by demonstrating they could make a motorcycle achieving incredible top speeds while being more rider-friendly than the Suzuki (and better looking, in my opinion). But why not open our minds a little to see that the newly released ZX-14 was developed with different goals in mind, such as incredible power/torque throughout the entire band, overall technology, unique ergonomics, and style not available for the consumer 5 years ago? Because with the looks of the Ninja 1400, I don't think there will be many motorcycles on the street or the road making as many statements as this bike does. I believe this new Kawi will be the weapon of choice for somewhat older riders (myself included) who are not really into stunt riding, being most interested in sport touring and weekend getaways, and why not, a few high speed outbursts just for the adrenalin in it. If you have ridden one of these beauties (I can't wait to!) you certainly know what I'm talking about... Besides, I can nearly guarantee that this radical Ninja will be included in those fascinating projects on diesel powered motorcycles in the near future, just the way the do-it-all KLR650 is at this moment. As a Kawasaki fan, I couldn't get better news than the release of this motored work of art.

I still don't know what the disapointment is all about. I think alot of folks expected a ZX10RR with a 1400cc motor in it. That couldn't be a desireable GT bike at all. Once the road tests come out I think we will be VERY pleased with this NEW class leader.

Very true> There are many of use that don't really care to see another "R" bike in the lineup and are quite happy to see ZX14 not being an "R".

The "R" does not really mean anything. FJR1300 has an "R" and FJ1100/FJ1200 did not. But they were more GT class. The 1300 is more touring, with a shaft drive. It is all just numbers & names game. I guess it's better without the "R" so my insurance agent does not freak out when I bring in the sales contract to sign me up.

thunderhawk must be the leading engineer behind this P.O.S.

It may be a nice bike to ride, but isn't very easy on the eyes.

...the ZX14 is really not so bad on the eyes.....when compared with the headlights of BMW's Terminator-esque-looking K1200R, of course....

The more I look the more I like. And I can't afford the new BMW.
I am with you on the ergos. Ride for more than 20 min at a time and I am like to fall part on this freaking 12 of mine.
The 14 is going to be a monster and just about everyone who has seen it in person likes it.

...the 12R can be made to be one ergo friendly gentleman's express GT long distant rocket ...I'm a 6-1/250 and wear a size 13 boot....here's how I made mine fit well to my aging carcass to allow me an easy 600+ miles day uh back in the day :

heil-bars+corbin seat+ozzy foot control lowering kit+zero-gravity windsheild+throttlemeister+dino rear cowl hinge...all I need now is a set of heli-bars for my next long-distance trip that I have yet to take...

...the wide-ass corbin seat made the BIGGEST difference, imho, towards the comfort level of my wide ass on the bike...the stock seat was good for a tankfull before I had an ache in my sitbones/pelvis/lowerback....and it never bothered me that the corbin looks like a tractor seat to some, because afterall, I was really really riding the damn bike, not staring at and fawning over it in front of some foofoo coffee house , right?...the heli-bars should make it fit like my favorite jeans and boots .....

...I DARE Kawasaki to make adjustable handlebars/pegs, adjustable heated/vibro-massage seat, adjustable windsheild height, heated grips, weather-proof hardbags, digital speedo, and GPS standard on D model (or sooner) of the 14...c'mon Kawasaki!...I double....no....I triple-dog dare you! ....

...if it might be 'slightly heavier' anyway, might as well make it slightly heavier for very good and worthy reasons from Kawasaki Heavy Industries, right?

...speed, comfort, utility, looks....form follow function....if its a carver you want, there's the 6 and 10, et al....but a good GT bike is a good thing to have, too.....
