Nope, never a salesman... however literature put out by a company (e.g. presentations at shows) has more weight to it than a salesman's spewings.
Still doesn't mean the production bike will put out the same at the crank as some pre-production bike or same as a target previously expected to be met. Ballpark at best in this stuff.
However the fact that they're targeting over 200 at the crank is more hopeful than not targeting that much at the crank.
As for that salesman, maybe instead of being a total liar (though that's not excluded) maybe he had rear wheel and crank-with-Ram-Air confused. Did Kawasaki ever give that 182 figure for the latter condition?

Did Kawasaki literature ever claim 170 rwhp for the 10R? I never saw that (but I have not seen everything, though I believe I read all the US magazine articles on the 10R and most of the British.)
