Anyone ridden a Trials bike?

Skagit Power Sports in Mt Vernon Wa. is having a GasGas demo day in the Walker Valley off road area on Sept 7. Might be a gas (sorry) to try them out and probably get humiliated by the accomplished Trials riders.

The sport is actually alot of fun. The part about being humiliated is secondary. You're so busy laughing at yourself, you don't notice the others laughing with you.
The 2 owners at my shop have just got into the trials scene and take in a couple of vintage events every summer. Colorado (Millikin) is coming up in the middle of September. Would sure like borrow the ol Suzuki and do my first. http://www.ahrma.org/trials.html

I've gone to some trials events and it really is incredible what these guys and gals do.

I'll bet it sharpens your street riding abilities!! I've also heard that trials bikes are excellent on single track trails. Only problem being small fuel tank and OUCH if you try to sit down.

I have a friend with a 1972 Ossa. It is a special edition of the machine that won the worlds that year.

We were out trailing one day and we traded, my XR650R and this 250 2-stroke. The 1st gear is slower than a walking pace but super easy to putter at idle. I made the mistake of trying to steer using the throttle around a few tight corners and the thing went straight where it was pointed. Also 1972 drums are no longer the hot ticket for braking.

It is like comparing a '73 900 Kawi to a '03 Z-1, however the thing was a hoot to ride, I wouldn't pass up a chance to ride a new one. I hear they put out twice the power of a Guzzi.

Sweeeeeeeeet!!! Would love to get my hands on something like that. As far as the vintage bikes go, the Sherpa T/Bultaco is the one most admired. Big following and lots of support. The kool part about the vintage scene/ahrma is there is no stopping of the bike while on course like they do in the modern venue's. You get the same deduction as you would if you put your foot down.

Sounds like fun! I like the idea of falling down slowly!
