Hey worm.
Notice how all the shit disturbers (except me) stay out of this forum?
That's cos we're ruffty tuffty dirt guys who eat bears for breakfast and spit rocks at dinner time.
Wish they'd come up with a cure for monkey butt though!!

...I'm thinking 'bout gettin' a smaller used 400-500cc 4-stroke thumper after I get back from Laguna...to hone my skills even further...the KLR is for touring/camping...the smaller bike will be my ultimate teaching tool....

Have you seen the 400 Kwak? Same thing as the Suzuki but looks much better (I think) in the Kwak colours.
The XR400 is a good off road bike...except for......hard starting when warm, which is a pain in the ass. A friend of mine from Maryland has one. Lots more power than my old DR350 but that starting problem is common with all the XR400s.
Another off road only bike that I've h eard good things about but never ridden is the Kwak..KX220 (?) and then it became 300 (?) MIght have the model incorrect but its an enduro not mx bike.
I've heard the Yamaha 400, 426 etc is very expensive for engine parts. Same with KTM. Could be bs, not sure.
The same guy who has the XR400 also has the Honda CR450. Recomended engine tear down time is 15 hours!!!!!!!!!! He races in the old timer series so he says his is good for 30 hours....ha hahaha. Still, that bike is strictly for racing. Still hard to believe a 4 stroke needs new rings etc in 15 hours racing.

...looking for 'lectic start and street legal (or can be converted with light kits)...any such animal?...one that is basically idiot-proof for idiots like me?...I did see and sit on the '03 KLX400S, but didn't pay much attention to the mechanical details of the scoot...t'was purdy, tho!...if only they'd make a 650 version...with 7 gallon tank, of course...
...he, did you remember seeing in one of the bike mags about some guy who converted an SV650 into an DP-type bike? with knobbies and long travel suspension?...that might be the ultimate roll your own 'cheap' ticket...assuming you can find a 'cheaper' used SV and the parts he used...

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Man!! That just made my blood pressure go up!!
70-75 hp in the dirt!! Woooo Hooo!!! Time to start looking for a used SV with some front end damage. Then pick up some used CR forks and triple trees. Wonder if the frame can take that abuse?
I think I'd try to get some kind of engine guards for the side of the motor though. Something like the Happy Trails guards for the KLR. They should start (if they allready havent) a flat track series with those bikes.
They did it with the TL1000 motor.
Any flat track schools out there? he he hehe he....Mrs Dirty would kill me!
