Hi all,

as posted:
My two buddies John and Wright were riding at Cow Mountain yesterday (6/9) and came across an abandoned 1200GS deep in the woods. There was a note on the bike dated 6/6 that he walked out with the name "Al Vadney."

Doe anyone know Al or how we can reach him? The bike was righted and we're all trying to reach out to make sure he's okay.

additional info by me:

This persons coat, gps, & other personal items were found some distance from the bike.

Cow Mountain is very deep in the No. CA woods, walking out would be very difficult I am told. Northern CA BLM & CHP have been notified. But as this person has not been reported missing, no search has been mounted as of post time.

(updated with correct Lakeport info)

Great news! I just got a call from Ranger Ames and he said the rider was found in Lakeport 3 days after abandoning the bike and searching for help.

I didn't get too many details, but the Lake County Sheriff's Office was involved in the rescue and he is now safe and recovering in a local motel.

If anyone wants to get in touch with the rider please contact the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

I'd love to hear this guy's story.

We can call off the search, thanks everyone and please ride safe!

Even if we weren't instrumental in the rescue I like to think we would have been critical to the efforts if he hadn't been found yet. Thanks John and Wright!

Good lesson to ride within our capabilities, and to ride with a buddy whenever possible.

Thanks guys, I am the idiot but otherwise I am OK. I just got home and heard about this thread from my brother. I have many people to thank, especially, two quad riders who most definitely saved my life and I don’t know their names.
I’ll give more details on my idiocy later, I am really beat.

When I dropped the bike, I couldn’t pick it up. After a time, I figured I’d better try hiking out.
I went the wrong way apparently. I don’t understand why. My Zumo was routing me down and then dropped the route. When I realized this, I went back to the bike. It was dark then.
In the morning I hiked to the top of the trail. There was a confluence of trails there and I thought I might be better off waiting there for possible help. I was already dehydrated and if I kept moving I was just going to make it worse. I really didn’t know what to do.
I think the second afternoon I was having hallucinations.

BTW, I contacted the Lakeport Police and told them my story. I wanted to make sure there wasn’t a search going on for me. I was told there was no search in progress. I think this was Sunday morning.

Sadly a couple days after getting out of the hospital, the rider had a massive heart attack & passed.
