Trey Canard and Ryan Morais both Suffer Serious Spinal Injuries in Los Angeles Supercross Crash

Information is still flowing in, however it has been reported via various Twitter feeds from friends and family of the injured riders that both #65 Star Valli Yamaha's Ryan Morais and #41 Team Honda/Muscle Milk's Trey Canard suffered serious spinal injuries and fractures after a get together on Lap 1 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, California on January 21.

The incident occurred when #41 Trey Canard picked up the cover of a Tuff Blox which dragged behind his 450cc Honda limiting his ability to negotiate a jump. #65 Ryan Morais landed on top of the #41 Honda rider, knocking them both off their machines and unconscious.

Unable to avoid the pile up, #54 Weston Peick on board his Kawasaki KX450F landed on both fallen riders. Peick appeared to be uninjured, however the other riders lay immobilized - one of them lay with arms locked in position facing upwards, motionless.

Officials Red Flagged the race and both riders were taken to Hospital, where reports via Twitter began flowing in at about 2AM.

Unconfirmed reports state that Canard has had surgery for a spinal T10/T12 fracture and that Morais has lost several teeth as well as suffering 3 fractures of the neck.

CBS Sports, which broadcast the race Sunday morning, limited their coverage of the Red Flag to a mere 29.2 seconds, even though it resulted in an almost 1/2 hour delay of the race.

More details to follow.
