BROCK’S PERFORMANCE-EQUIPPED KEITH THOMPSON SMASHES THE 7-SECOND BARRIER IN AMA DRAGBIKE’S BST REAL STREET CLASS
Brock’s Performance-equipped Keith Thompson set a major drag-racing milestone at the AMA Dragbike Summer Nationals, becoming the first racer to reach the 7s in the BST Real Street class.
Thompson scored the record-setting 7.98 sec./172.39 mph pass on his HTP Cycles-prepared 2007 GSX-R1000 using a trio of premier Brock’s Performance brands: carbon fiber wheels from BST, Brock’s patent-pending TiWinder, a titanium, elliptical, side-mounted exhaust system and a Brock’s Dragshock by Öhlins.
Real Street is a limited-budget class with heads-up, no-breakout competition. Although internal engine modifications are unlimited, Real Street power levels are controlled by mandating an OEM-style, non-lockup clutch. Real-world reliability is proven in 10-mile road course tests at selected events.
This run was laid down during Saturday’s first round of qualifying and backed up within one percent for the record books as Thompson climbed to the top of the ladder.
“The 8.01s and 8.02s have been coming easily, so I wanted to be the first guy in the sevens,” said the 42-year-old straight-lining veteran from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. “Finally, I got that monkey off my back. I’d like to thank Brock’s Performance for sponsoring me this year and Brock Davidson for all his tuning help and advice this weekend.”
Without enough time for his bike’s clutch to cool from an earlier run, Thompson went out in the semi-final round, but continues to lead the BST Real Street championship point standings with four rounds of the series remaining.
Thompson’s accomplishment resonates with Davidson, Brock’s Performance president and a former American Suzuki Motor Corporation-sponsored racer who, in 2000, was the first man to take a street-legal motorcycle into the seven-second bracket.
“After watching Keith run last year, I knew he would really fly with our products,” said Davidson. “Drag racing is all about control and attention to details, so we chose Keith and Team HTP to prove the strengths of our exclusive product lines. This milestone is an accomplishment that can never be duplicated. In racing, records are made to be broken, but only Keith can stake claim as the first to run a seven-second pass in the Real Street class.”

Doesn't seem that long ago that Pro Street (Streetbike Shootout) bikes broke into the 7s (Brock nitrous). Then the 60 inch bikes - Mikey Slowe. Then the Super Street bikes with no standalones, small turbos and less wheelbase (Victor Gotay? Mikey again? I forget). And now the short wheelbase, no standalone STOCK clutch bikes - in this case on a nitrous 1000 - the performance has come down quickly. Amazing.

Thats a huge 4x4 modified motor on that Suzuki 1000. They dont even crank it to ride it from the pits to the staging lanes. I guess it has over heating issues !!! Still, great job and congrats.....

Thats cooking,
I am trying to figure out how these guys are going so quick. I was touching on that MPH but no where near the E/T. How those bikes leave so hard and do nothing but stay planted and go straight is mind boggling.

1173cc I beleive KWS does as well.
RC's Performance now offers the same custom JE pistons we use, to the public so that you can build your own engine. The stroke listed is the size crank that you will need to yield the engine size listed.
Bore x Stroke (Engine Size)
3mm x 4mm ( 1143cc )
4mm x 4mm ( 1173cc )
5mm x 4mm ( 1204cc )
*** 4mm x 6mm ( 1210cc ) ***
5mm x 6mm ( 1242cc )

How is longevity for these big engines.
I have always wanted a lighter smaller literbike, but I am love with the torque of my 14...
Wish I could have both for the street.
Just a mild tune, like an uncorked 14, but the fat torque curve is what I would be after for street riding.
Something that is reliable, light, flickable and torquey.
The top end rush on the literbikes when uncorked is quite inspiring, but the bottom end and short 80 ft lb top end torque curves are lacking IMO.
Anyway not to thread jack,
Big congrats to Brock.
Couldn't be happening to a better guy IMO,

,
Belated congrats Brock and rider on the record!
The 1242 motor and is strip only, requires pinned block. I have a 3mm no stroke and not a whole lot of meat left. i would have to believe anything above a 3 x4 1143 is going to be strip only.
I wonder why the big 4 stopped at litre's for the light is right concept? same goes for v6 or 1200 CBXRR LOL! I read a blurb on the new Aprilla V4 design allowed for larger configurations maybe a V4 1200 in the future?

Thanks guys!
Cecil and the whole HTP team really have their act together. Keith’s combination mandates the use of a DOT approved Z rated (honest to goodness) street tire. It’s amazing. In 2000 when I ran the first seven, Mickey Thompson had just finished developing their MC series rear tire which was a road tire carcass with a compound originally developed for their car slicks. It was a huge step above the street tires on the market at the time. Keith’s seven was on an off the shelf/readily available soft compound Michelin Power One 190/50/17 street tire.
