The Slime stuff certainly works very well, especially in a pinch or with a bad slash. Traditionally I carry one of the simple quickie plug kits on the road for simple nails and screws. Then carry a compact electric inflater or CO2 cartridges.
Bikeland did a repair kit review a while back: http://www.bikeland.org/story.php?storyID=28125

VERY KOOL once again I underestimate the power of BikeLand.org
Kinda crappy t hear about the CO2 cartridges not being up to the task ..... but I am not sure a good bike pump would d any better.
