LONDON (AFP) - A motorcyclist was jailed for six months on Monday for speeding at 122 miles per hour -- with his 14-year-old son riding on the back, a court heard.

Robert Bennett, who was caught riding at more than twice the 60 mph speed limit on his 1300cc Suzuki bike last April, was also banned from driving for 18 months by a court.
The 47-year-old cleaning supervisor from Barnstaple in southwest England, who is divorced from the son's mother, admitted driving dangerously after picking up the boy from his ex-wife for a visit.
"Had you lost control the motorcycle would have become a missile and it is certain there would have been a serious accident or highly probably the death of a least one other road user," the judge told him.
"Added to that fact you had your 14-year-old son on the back. The lack of responsibility is unbelievable. This is so dangerous that the court cannot avoid a custodial sentence, to send a message out."
Bennett -- who has ridden motorbikes since his youth -- said during the trial that he had accelerated because it had started to rain, but admitted that was dangerous.
He told the BBC his bike "is the fastest bike around and it has a top speed of 220 mph.
"But I hold my hands up. I was doing 122 mph on that road and that was dangerous, especially with my lad on board," he added.

I question the story............. England uses KPH not MPH. Why would they be talking in MPH?

I fucking hate it when people who know nothing about riding talk about bikes. It would have been a missle had something gone wrong at 100 or 80mph or at the fucking speed limit too. And of course no mention of traffic. If that was in light to no traffic, it was perfectly safe. If anything over very light, it was indeed a bit risky. But I dare say hardly jail time risky.

right.
i got ran off the road for doing 107 in a 70 zone (in north carolina on I-40 in the middle of fucking nowhere with no traffic)
the magistrate was saying (cuz they arrested me right then and there) "you're lucky this officer stopped you. you would have hurt yourself riding that fast"
ex-fucking-scuse me?
say again?
fuck you.
please.. that was too "out there" for me to even comprehend.
i ALMOST said "he's lucky i pulled over when i did.. he would have killed himself trying to keep up!!!"
fucking bastards.
gotta love the ignorant populus.
i agree that it was kinda dumb for that putz to put his kids life in "danger" i guess, but bikes are more stable at that speed than at say 50mph.. as well, rain .. eh.. i've seen 120+ in the wet with no issues.. good traction.. it's all in the finesse of control. i think what they did was bullshit tho.
