Brembo opens new motorcycle braking systems plant in India

After purchasing in October the entire Indian JV KBX stake hold by Bosch, Brembo, the leader in high-performance brake systems, has today celebrated the official opening of its new plant in India.

The facility will manufacture disc braking systems for scooters and motorcycles between 125 and 250 cc for the Indian market. Brembo’s operational market sector has been growing of 14% in 2008 compared to the previous year and a development is foreseen for the year 2009.

The plant is about 160 km south of Mumbai in the city of Pune, the capital of India’s automotive sector, stands on a plot of 15,000 m² and provides 5,000 m² floor space, and employs 220 persons.

Brembo Group, through its Indian subsidiary, holds a 50% market share of motor vehicles brake systems manufactured in India and its main clients are the leading local as well as international companies such as Bajaj, Hero Honda, Honda Motors, Yamaha, Suzuki, Royal Eenfield. The Indian market is mainly composed by motor vehicles from 50 cc to 350 cc.

On this occasion Brembo has also introduced the new brand “Breco”, which is a synthesis of “Brembo Company”, studied to be the brand specifically dedicated to the braking systems of smallto-medium displacement scooters and motorcycles (up to 250 cc) targeted for the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and other south-eastern countries (ASEAN).

The Brembo Group Indian subsidiary – today called KBX will soon change the name into Brembo Brake India - is the leader in the development and production of brake systems in India and was established in February 2006 as a 50-50 joint-venture between Brembo and Bosch. The 2008 sales were about 1.050 million Rupees (€17 million); KBX has no financial debt.

Brembo has been active in India since 1998/99, when the Indian group Kalyani Brakes acquired a licence to manufacture brake discs for motorcycles from the Indian group Kalayani Brakes, subsequently acquired by Bosch Chassis Systems India Ltd, an Indian subsidiary of the German multinational. In 2006, KBX established as a Joint Venture between Bosch and Brembo. Since 2007, Brembo has been based in India with a design centre supporting the Group R&D activities. Soon it will be improved also with an organizational unit of Global Sourcing for all Brembo Group Companies.

In the last three years, Brembo has invested over 1 billion Rupees (more than €17 million). To continue its development in India, Paolo Magri, Motorcycles Business Unit Director, has been appointed as Managing Director of Brembo Group India Activities Responsible.

Brembo Spa is the world leader and acknowledged innovator of the brake disc technology for automotive vehicles. Brembo supplies high performance brake systems for the most important manufacturers of cars, commercial vehicles and motorbikes worldwide, as well as clutches, seats, seat belts and other components for racing only. Moreover, Brembo is also a leader in the racing sector and has won more than 200 championships.

Doesn't matter with chutney or not, Brembo is the best of the best.

Their labor is about to be cheap, if they drop prices I bet demand skyrockets.

Maybe this fine stuff will soon be stock on Jap bikes (cough cough & choking from holding breath)

India? I don't even like them answering my credit card calls, let alone making brakes for me. LOL. Just like many products....cheap labor usually equals cheaply made product.

Breco ? Breakco? and I do not mean Brakeco, I mean cheap ass Indian built Breakco .

Thank god it is only for scooters and small 250cc and below motorcycles

Brembo is taking that slippery path to profit at the cost of quality..

Time will tell if they can manage their quality in 3rd world manufacturing.

Everything we buy now is 3rd world, computers, appliances, clothes, tools, surgical tools, toothpaste, pet food, steel, textiles, etc etc etc. Where do you think 90% of the parts are made on our bikes now?

The manufacturers have been able to take their quality standards and put them in any factory, The soil its on and color of the skin on the labor doesn't matter. The days of "its junk because it comes from Taiwan" have long been over. Look around today. Its folks like General Motors that have an ego that won't believe it, and are being slaughtered in this "GLOBAL" manufacturing economy.

I sat in a class with some Chinese that knew more about 6 sigma quality standards than our certified professor.

"This is our future....Enjoy"

I'm not enjoying it but I can SEE what is happening, and to state they make only "junk" overseas is the biggest bunch of bullshit posted in a long time. We all know better.

TM, I see our laborers in the video too, what does that have to do with our future? This country will remain a global technology, military and services powerhouse.

Labor in the USA has been on the decline (with increase in outsource) since Ford got the assembly line right, thats no secret. Why is that? Well, lets look at the recent Boeing strike. Airbus out of France got TONS of orders as Boeing lost billions. The business of US labor is being destroyed by greed which makes its too expensive for us to compete? Or am I an asshat to say such? I don't like it but i can see the truth at what is happening before us.

Another real threat is those people in the video are stepping on our technology (IT, chipsets, hardware), but that has been kept in check too.

Third world???

well to inform you about some things made in india.

All Ferrari crank shafts are forged in india in a state called Punjab.I'm acquainted to the person who's doing it.

All your wiring harnesses,be it the ducati, yamaha, aprillia, honda, kawasaki all of them are manufactured in india by a company named webasto.right in the capital of india in delhi.

Indian forge "Bharat forge" is the biggest forge in the whole world and makes crankshafts and connecting rods for all you cars.even the cars you drive.Only one campany lamborgini makes their own crank shafts.
all other companies have contracted bharat forge for it.how do i know.i worked there for 6 months.

regarding quality,i don't think you need better quality than ferrari crankshafts.

also what do you guys think about your bike wheels.most of them are made by enkie right.where do you think they are mde.Yes right here india.....so how many of you are gonna change them tomorrow itself thinking about their lower quality.

why in the hell do you guys think cheap labour means cheap quality.quality is set by quality control.and quality control dept. is in no way connected to the labour dept.GET IT!!

just because you guys have better buying power because your country doesn't have import taxes doesn't make you more quality concious.

how much do you guys pay for your bikes.$12k.we pay the double.i got mine in $24k.does it make me a resident of first world.

quit calling india third world.

if you guys are so amazing in quality why don't you make your own stuff and use it?
