Kawasaki

Before the busa, before the 12R,before the ZX14, the ZX11 reigned for many years.

IMHO, to this day Kawi has not built a bike that has replaced the multi functionality of the ZX11.Nor has any other manufacturer.

Simple tuning and an exhaust system the ZX11 will dyno 150 rwhp. Get 50 mpg when ridden with a soft hand at legal highway speeds. Has a range over 300 miles per tank for the D models. Carries a passenger.. Has decent weather protection.

Why didn't Kawi just give the ZX11 a few more cc's, correct the crank oiling issue(ZX12r based maybe?), add better brakes and suspension pieces and call it good?

Nothing that they don't have in then parts bin, they could have sold a ton of them with little developmental cost.

The ZX-11 ruled the roost for a long time as the fastest production bike. Then the XX Blackbird knocked it off its perch, then came the Hayabusa. Then the speed wars ended with the "gentleman's agreement". The ZX-11 was the same type of bike as its successors, a plush rocket. It never was meant to go serious canyon carving. If you wanted to do that, you'd ride the 9. I would bet on my old 84 900 Ninja getting around a twisty road coarse faster than the 11.

Like I said "multi functionality" . not a track bike, not a anything in particular, just an excellent all around bike.
I have never seen an 1100 zook put down 150 rwhp with only tuning and an pipe. With cams and a big bore kit but that isnt simple tuning.

Will a 14 engine fit in the 11 frame????

I have owned both the 11 and the 12R and the 12R was not as good an all around bike as the 11, no doubt about it. And I dont give a rats ass about track days on either.

Don't get me wrong Oz, I wasn't dogging the 11 at all. The 11 of its day is the 14 of today. The 11, 12, 14, XX, and 'busa are all in that "multi-function" group. Very fast, somewhat comfortable, can tour some, can canyon carve some etc...

aint no way the 11 was better than the 12

aint a magazine out there ever said that

1100 zook were road raced in open classes with the biggest disadvantage

front brakes were NOT up to the speed

as far as track racing goes took a number of year b4 KHI caught up on the track

catch up they did....... it wont a 11 tho

all the euro mags said a 12 would out handle a busa.....ALL the mags

which puts it far ahead of the 11............. even you said wasnt much at it

ho hum......................12 all the way

i really think the 12 is a better bike than the 14
