Meeting between the FIM, the Japanese industry and Live Nation Motocross and Supercross - Expanding Series Outside North America
A meeting was held in Tokyo on Wednesday between FIM President Vito Ippolito, FIM/CMS President Wolfgang Srb and FIM Sports Director Ignacio Verneda, representatives of each of the four Japanese motorcycle manufacturers, Messrs Muramatsu, Aoki and Fujiwara (Honda Motor Company), Katoh and Masukura (Yamaha Motor Company), Matsumura and Ohshima (Suzuki Motor Corporation), Miyazawa and Inoue (Kawasaki Heavy Industries), Live Nation representatives Messrs Charlie Mancuso and Todd Jendro, and MFJ President Masatoshi Suzuki.
Various subjects were again discussed further in details (see Press Release of December 21, 2007): the use of 2-stroke engines for youth classes for a question of low cost, affordability and mechanical facilities, but also the presence of two-stroke machines in all off-road classes, the exclusive use of 2-stroke machines in the Junior Motocross World Championship, following the general request of teams, riders (and parents), National Federations, etc.; the MX1 4-stroke capacity limit remaining at 450cc; the work in adjusting a new equivalence of cubic capacity between 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines – currently under study by the sound level working group. Finally the FIM will maintain its will of Motocross and Supercross being global sports, i.e. World Championships having rounds in the largest number of continents outside Europe, with riders from all continents.
Moreover, Messrs Mancuso and Jendro made an exhaustive presentation of the activities of Live Nation, and confirmed their intention to expand the FIM Supercross World Championship outside North America.
