hey sticks, sorry for the delay in responding...

my suit is several years old now, and has probably seen... 30,000miles maybe? perhaps just 20, i dont know. anyway, i'm not really sure what rain and sun has done to it. it still looks fine but that doesnt mean anything in terms of it's condition when its important. i have crashed with it once at about 50mph, and it did just fine, tho certainly it appears alot more damaged than leather because it is woven with lycra and of course the lycra just falls off like nothing (it's just there to give it stretch, u dont want a pure kevlar weave for this application i've read). in any case it hasnt fallen apart of anything and feels like it fits the same as it ever has, but i really cant tell if its degraded.

one thing about kangaroo... it doesnt appear to be universally superior. if i'm not mistaken 2 board members have crashed in the MotoGP branded kanga suit and the suits didnt fare well at all. both were really disappointed. i think it was Dino & RedRidingHood, hopefully they can confirm. in hindsight the surprisingly reasonable price was a clue. still we were all pretty dissapointed.

It only "still looks fine" because you're on the inside of it and you don't have to stare at it like we do...

your suit is toast! get some proper leathers already!!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!! Damn nice match PK.

Thanks for the info fellas, I take my skin pretty seriously nowadays, unlike when I was younger. And with the way I've been pushing my limits I have zero doubt sometime this year I'll be going down and "road testing" whatever suit I buy - hopefully on the track where telephone poles are few and far between!

Was talking to my towns EMT slash Fire Fighter slash reserve cop (small town!) about motorcycle accidents and he told me they had a new nickname for guardrails: "Manglers".

Apparently they have had a rash of guys lowsiding and sliding into them at ground level, going under the metal bumpers and contacting the wooden posts. He said that when arms, legs, or heads go into them they get mangled or ripped off. I was wondering why so many guys had died in the last two years since the states barrier program went into effect. Seems a new law was passed that says any road that has any kind of a drop off to ground level from road level has to have a barrier installed to keeps the cars on the road. Those drop offs just happen to coincide with corners... So they have installed those stupid things all over the friggin place last year

Time to take it to the track I guess...

yeah unfortunately I know exactly what you mean. Seen the same effect in person when a guy riding a ways in front of me got run off the road by a car turning left into our lane. He went off the road to keep from hitting the car. And he never even must have seen the telephone pole tension wire that decapitated both him and his girlfriend. Both there heads were inside there helmets laying out in a just cut hay field.

No help I had coulda done any good so I left them laying there while the blood was still forming a dark red pool in the dry ass dirt.

Two years straight there was fresh flowers at that telephone pole. Never knew who it was, or who put the flowers there but it was comforting to know someone remembered them.

There's some memories I wish I could forget.... more than "some"

Hmmm... sure makes you think.
I read an article in a Motorcycle magazine (years ago) where they interviewed a forensic accident investigator.
He said that in his years of investigating motorcycle fatalities that the bike (in his professional opinion) never went down because of a mechanical error - but that it was always a user error.

Like for example if the bike was traveling around a corner and went off the road - it wasn't because the bike couldn't make the corner traveling at the speed it was traveling - the bike could do it - it was the rider that wasn't skilled enough to make the corner at that speed.
If I ever get into a tight spot I remember to have faith in my machine (especially if you have swapped out those stock tires and are riding with something decent on your rims) and not bail out or "lay her down".

Not saying that's what happened to your friends...hope the car stopped to see what chain reaction their actions caused.....

I am sorry about your friends - that is a horrible accident.
The world isn't designed by motorcycle riders.

Luckily (?) I didnt know the two who died. Word around my riding group was the guy was a new rider... with a passenger. Bad recipe.

I quite literally cant even come close to counting the amount of times my bike has saved my ass. Whether it was a car in my lane, bike in front of me crashed in the road, or I screwed up and burned in too hot to a corner, or even gravel mid corner. I figure its the same kind of panic/focus/instinct that a soldier under fire feels when they can faintly hear there drill sargeants voice in the back of there mind telling them what to do. The body, lacking other clear directives, instinctly follows those drilled in words of advice. In our case its "Stare at where you want your bike to go no matter what!" and "Your bike is more capable than you think!".

I once saw all 3 of my buddies overshoot the same corner directly in front of me. At a racetrack luckily, they all went tumbling into each other across the grass. The hardest thing I ever did was to most literally FORCE my eyes off them and at the corner exit where I wanted to be (I had burned in too hot also thinking maybe they knew a faster way through that corner that I had taken hundreds of times.... lol). I slid both tires just past the apex but avoided the high side by staying loose on the bike and rodeoing it when it grabbed. As I stopped 2 other riders (who also followed me in too fast) pulled up and this guy told me he had never focused so hard on another mans ass in his entire life! And thanked me for showing him a "new line" through that corner. hahaha

Got a reply from these guys. Apparently it might be cheaper to custom order a suit from them versus off the rack!?:

Tracy,

I was forwarded your email from our counterparts in Australia. GiMoto Canada Ltd. is the North American agent for GiMoto and I will be able to help you with any questions and your order if we are able to get this in your budget. From looking at your height and weight, there is not a single off the rack suit that would fit you properly. Our Tour two piece suit starts at $1370 and does not include custom sizing, however, I will try to help where I can to meet your budget. Where we need to start is with your measurements, we can then forward the information to Italy for an exact quote on a custom two piece suit.

Kangaroo will be out of the question as most custom suits in your size will end up over $1800.00. The Tour suit in Black will work well with the ZX14, I would recommend arm venting and perhaps some perforation to deal with the high temperature, however, you have two options:

Perforation - Will require thermal underwear when it is cold No perforation - Take off the jacket and pants when you stop for a while (this is what I do - shorts under the leathers)

Once we have your measurements, the factory in Italy gets an exact cost. I can then do everything I can to try to meet your budget. Take a look at the attached files and try to get me your measurements. In the past we have been able to do custom suits for less than standard sizing, but it depends on several factors.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Rob

How they holding up? Hows the zippers and such doing? I've had alot of issues with zippers and stretch panels with the cheaper gear I've used. Just wondering if its also a high end gear problem (after a year or more of use).

Really?
Why is it a bees stinger somehow always finds the gap between the collar and the helmet - no matter how tiny that gap is?
But the bee stings you just low enough so that the top of the collar keeps rubbing the bee sting every time you shoulder check on the bike?
Usually on the first day of a long trip....

Hey Princess,

We've got those bloody cable barriers down here in oz. There is miles of it between my place and where I work. It's affectionatly know as "cheese slicer" here.

The lobbyists of the motorcycle community in Australia are trying to get it banned.

I was wondering if you knew which states in the US have banned those cr4p barriers. If i pass that info on to the lobbyists here it may help the cause.

I much prefer the way California treated there median cable barriers PK. They planted large shrubs all along there major freeways so that you both couldnt see the oncoming traffic (which means a northbound traffic jam/accident/etc. can't cause rubber necking on the southbound lanes), and when cars or bikes hit those now 15-20 ft around bushes there energy is absorbed by the bush way before you ever get to the cable.

As a guy who hit those shrubs out of control on I-5 in Sacramento, I can fully appreciate there benefits. Hit them at a 45 degree angle at about 70mph (with the car spinning) and barely bumped the cable. Walked away with zero bruises or aches.

Hell, I even drove the car home after I bent the fender away from the tire. Amazing. In Marysville WA (cable barrier test area) I woulda been dead meat in the oncoming lanes...
