Mother Nature Ate My Bikeweek

You could've fired a shotgun in the vendor's area and not hit anyone on Friday as Daytona's world famous Bikeweek draws to a close. Swinging a cat around would only scratch a few Harleys - not hundreds as in years past.

The looming rainclouds didn't help any - neither did the tornado warnings flashing on our TV screen in our hotel room. We even managed to drive right down Main Street in a pickup truck Thursday night unimpeded (for those of you who have been to Bikeweek, you'll understand what this means as a barometer for the event).

Some told us that they felt it was the economy, others told us that vendors were feeling the economic pinch. The OEMs seemed positive.

Regardless, hundreds of thousands of enthusiasts took advantage of demo rides from the OEMs, attended the races and enjoy Daytona.

As I type this, a massive gust of wind has blown over the fence in the parking lot of my hotel - I look out the window and see black clouds swirling in a most unnatural manner. Lightning is flashing through the curtains and the rain is pounding on the glass.

The Supercross is tonight. I have no rain gear - when I left on the plane the forecast was for sun.

If the Tornado materializes, then we'll have even more to write about.

Live from Daytona...

naw Dean man we had so much fun at the team HONDA banquet last night, I attented the best motorcross live race I've ever been to in my life watching the mudfest, and tomorrow for AMA road racing rain will be gone!

Oh, and I can't write an article about the supercross as I saw so eloquently written on the front page of Bikeland about tonights race..... let me quote the announcer

Honda #1, HONDA #2, HONDA #3, folks it was a HONDA sweeper and a HONDA night!

This whole bike week has been awesome, with tomorrow's road race a treat.

FBA was nice meeting you last night, where were you today LoL

It was nice seeeing Dan OldKawguy today. Of course we were spoiled in the Honda VIP tent, but Fish you missed it - after you started working, Eric's friends that deal duc parts got us in the Duc VIP tent and we had babes serving us italian coffees of every kind.

Fish, a few of the staff from JenningsGP and a bunch of friends we race with are coming over for the road races in the morning (actually they just checked in their hotel), see you all at the track once again

the pics are fantastic. they clearly show all the riders and their bikes are the color of mud, and the mud pit track~!

I sure appreciated umbrellas and my mickey-mouse poncho, seeing the pics of the muddy riders and thinking back, I had NO right to complain about it raining.

Was 34 degrees at night only on the last night, Eric and I loaded the bikes and met a crowd we race with at Kobe's in Long wood FL on the way back to Tampa, watched the japs cook for us, and called it a great time. Wish you'd have been there.

For the rest of the trip, We had a BLAST, was great seeing friends from all over and Bikeland folks again. It was especially nice meeting FBA and Vincent Hill for the first time. The AMA Supercross races were the best I have ever seen in person due to the track conditions, and the AMA races were great, perfect weather. Sneaking in the team HONDA banquet was the part of this trip I won't forget. Chit chatting with Miguel, Demske, Hayes, and the Motocross crowd was almost as much fun as chatting with the umbrella girls. I really appreciate those racers signing my SHOEI helmet, I'm now in the market for a new one.

I'll be returning for Daytona Octoberfest- And like last Octoberfest, we'll probably be taking our track bikes instead of street bikes. Daytona International Speedway is a BLAST to knee-drag around at speed

I'll post Daytona pics up soon.
