a cheap open source cnc would be great. i have seen a prototyping one in action making light lenes and wow very cool. my big question was where the hell was all this stuff way back when we had to hack the ports of all teh old two strokers ???
i think i've lucked out ,as my job as a CNC operator and machinist brings these toys to my every day..
man, i can't imagine the amount of inserts the guys making that V8 block use up tho with such high feeds and speeds, and mainly no coolant.....lol
love to have a 5 axis...
anyway, my work takes on private jobs for a fee (of course)..it used to be specifically a "job" shop. now, we've aimed ourselves, it seems, to a more production-oriented area, making electronics cabinets, housings and parts for Aerospace, defense, and submarine defense networking. not too much time anymore for private jobs..
the setup is the bich of it, really. that takes longer than running the actual part, some times. thats where you really pay for it... machine set-up, programming time, and sometimes, special tool purchase.

Hey! in that vidio, when the 4th indexes 90, it looks like the inital clearance plane is lower than the return plane. That would scare the shit outa me.

lol.. no doubt.. i get scared on some of the weird ass jobs i set up on 3 axis..
depends on the machine tho.. the fadals are smarter than the V2E's from 1984..
i'm sure thaat machine is smarter than the fadals i run..
the fadal moves Z first before any table movement is done ( to get the tool and spindle out of the way...).. the V2E just take off in all directions to home and if a tool hits a fixture.. it doesn't care..
seen em crash.. not pretty...
