Cycle World - 2008 R6 versus CBR

Well, its that time of year again, and Cycle World has there results in:
The Honda wins both the track AND street sections of the test! Here is the stats:

Honda numbers and quotes:
Weight: 384 (dry)
0-60: 2.9 sec.
1/4: 10.58
HP/TQ: 104.7 hp/ 43.8 tq

Ups: Featherweight feel
Heavyweight punch
Excellent ergos

Downs: New turnsignals, please!
Street comfort slightly compromises -
cornering clearance on-track.
Total lack of underseat storage.

Yamaha numbers and quotes:
Weight: 402 (dry)
0-60: 3.3 sec
1/4: 10.99
HP/TQ: 107.7 hp/ 42.5 tq

Ups: Fab front-end feel.
Slick-shifting tranny.
Improved midrange.

Downs: Midrange still lacking.
Front brake needs more bite.
8-grand getaways get old.

Important quotes:
" On the track, front-end feel is a key to a quick lap, and this is an area where the R6 absolutely shines.... From the turn-in point to the apex of the corner, the Yamaha's precise steering, inch-shorter wheelbase and smoother transition from braking to full lean (aided by the excellent slipper clutch) were its strong points.

On the other side of the apex is where the RR gets the kudos. Front-end feel isnt as confidence-inspiring, but once you stretch the chain and transfer weight to the rear end the Honda's plush shock communicates what the rear tire is doing better than the R6, giving the rider the go-ahead to whackthe throttle WFO and utilize the RR's superior midrange power on exit. No matter how early you get on the gas, the Yamaha won't make up for its power deficit compared to the new CBR."

"... the two bikes aren't far apart on the track. It ws here that the two surprised us by running outright lap times much closer than expected: the fastest lap time of each was only seperated by 8/100ths (!) of a second, the nod going to the Honda.... a similar pace can be conjured up on the Yami: it's just busier and requires more corner speed."

"Honda has found exactly the right balance between road and track with the RR. Not only does it weigh 18 pounds less than the R6 but it makes more horsepower and torque everywhere in the rev range except briefly at above 14,000 rpm.... at 9000 rpm, right in the meat of what is considered mid-range, the CBR makes a whopping 13 more hp and almost 8 foot-pounds more torque."

"As the defending champ in this category, the Honda would have to be beaten thoroughly not to retain its crown. That didnt happen. Not only did the RR surpprise us by just edging out the R6 on track, its street manners, daily livability and stout power delivery assure that the CBR still has Yamaha's number."

OK, Steve, you can now crow about Honda's again...

lol just admit you made a mistake getting rid of your mancard - err, ZX-14 Steve. It took alot of balls to step from a fairly rare bike with a very loyal following like the 14 to that R-1 that you know all the guys you used hang with make fun of. Now you have a WHOLE BUNCH of guys with exactly the same bike as you to hang out with in the parking lots.

I'll pull the knife outta your back if you promise to never call me a "Bish" again. lol

I do respect the fact that you know what you want, yet are still willing to try everything else out. Kudos

Slow down Has, have you even ridden the 1098 yet??? Or the 675 Daytona? There is other breakthrough bikes out there that gotta come first! lol

I do see you liking that 675 the best, though. Total track tool, right?
