In 1968 sales of the H1 (500cc) (500SS Mach-III in Japan) commenced. The air-cooled 2-stroke triple cylinder is the fastest machine in its class with a top speed of 200km/h. Nicknamed "Bronco", the H1 marked the beginning of Kawasaki's Speed King Legend.
I'm not seeing it. I'll always remember older bikes, but as time goes by and they get better I would just laugh about how I use to think they were awesome at one time. I wouldn't even want an H1. I'd take a new Ninja over it anyday. I just like progression I guess.

If you ever rode one that is in good shape 69-71 you would have a different opinion. They were a hoot to ride. And the ass dyno would tell you even today that the things are dead fast. They wheelie like crazy and just scream at you. Of course the new bikes are better and faster, but the H1s and H2s were revoloutions.

We called them (as did many others) WidowMakers.
I knew two guys my senior HS year that owned a 500 and 750 each. Both were very clean bikes (this was 1980).
They were brutal fast in their day, and they handled like shit when pushed hard in the curves. Backbone shake that would screw up your head big time.
Thus the name WidowMaker.
And yep, they were definitely the pre-cursor to todays super-bikes.
In 1969 Honda approached the world with a smooth, relatively quiet 750Four and Kawasaki approached the world right from their history books (making among other things WWII fighter aircraft) with a noisy, very fast 2 stroke triple.
The Honda stole the magazines for its sewing machine smoothness, the Kawasaki stole the dragstrip trophies.

My first new street bike was a 1982 gpZ 750.
I will NEVER forget driving that bad boy home from Fay-Myers on Evans in downtown Denver.
Smoothest bike by a long shot I'd ever ridden.
$2734 OTD and yes, I still have the original bill of sale. LOL

I love that gpz so much, you know that I could kiss her".
