Need help choosing Bike

First post here, I am planning on buying a sport bike and have been looking at the 2007 ZX10R
turning 47 in a few months and going through my Second Childhood. I have owned many bikes
( probably over 60 motorcycles ) but have not ridden any new sport bikes. Thought I wanted a ZX-14 but I sit on a 14 and a ZX10R and liked the feel of the 10 better. I know the new bikes have alot more power that my old V65 Sabre, but would like some input on the pro's and con's of the new liter bikes. Not a racer but have always like powerfull bikes. Any help appreaciated.

The new bikes are awesome. If you can handle the seating position then there is nothing out there that combines the shear power and handling and braking into such a fun package. I have a zx12r and I had a zx10r until someone stole it and as a streetbike the 10 is extremely hard to beat. I love my big bored nitroused 12 but around town and on a twisty road the power and handling of the 10 is just unbeleivable. You wont be disappointed.

...for what this 'older rider's' (I''m 51) opinion is worth, your choice will depend on your needs, purpose, and what you expect to do on a sportbike...are you inclined towards track-days and twisty roads?...go with the ZX-10, maybe even the ZX-6...are you just cruising, maybe take the occassional or frequent long distance ride?...is overall long distance comfort paramount?...the ZX-14 might be the better choice overall...

...the bottom line is that you don't want to kid yourself...either of these bikes are great bikes no matter what you do with them...they are technical tour de' forces...how much of the bike's (and your's) potential are you actually going to use on the street or track?...if you're seeking superficlal respect about you choice of ride from other riders, then let your ego be your guide...they will be oooohing and aaaahing about the bike, not you...but...if you want true respect from knowledgable, experienced, and mature riders, then get the bike that will allow you to tear it up to the best of your and the bike's capabilities and allow you live to talk about it and do it some more ....

I don't ride many miles at one ride, 99% of my riding is by myself. Not wanting to impress anyone
other than me for the adrenaline rush. I have a bad back so I can't ride for hours. I'm leaning towards the ZX10R but am concerned about the ride. But the ZX10R should ride smoother than my 23 year old suspension on the V65 Sabre. Thanks for all the replies, Mabe the dealer will let me test ride both of them.
Thanks again.

I have had both the 10r and now the 14 if you want toride curves really fast or do track days it's hard to beat the 10r. If you want to ride curves faster then you should on the street and go to the drag strip or just plain have a speed rush the 14 is the choice. the 14 is also alot more comfortable especially if you have a bad back.

Ok, I'm 32, by no means old, but I'm 6'1" and 225 lbs. I have a GSXR1000 and a ZX-14 right now. I pick the 14 hands down. I'll give you a whole list of reasons why:

1. The 14 does not handle like the 1000 on twisties, but if you stiffen the suspension (which is pretty easy to do) it handles VERY well. I have no problems keeping up with friends on liter bikes and 600's. Mind you we are not actually racing but we are riding pretty agressively.
2. You have room to put the hard Corbin saddlebags on the ZX-14. Ya, they're really pricey, but I love them, worth the money for the ability to ENJOY running errands.
3. If the 1000's get ahead of you in the twisties you'll catch up quickly in the straightaways
4. The seating position is MUCH more comfortable on the ZX-14. You sit a bit more upright and the pegs seem in a better position.
5. The passenger seat is a LOT more comfortable than my 1000 or my KLR650 according to my wife. More leg room too.
6. The headlight on the 14 is GREAT. Okay, with high lean angles it's hard to see where you're turning to, but most bikes seem to suffer from this. It's not too bad with brights on. Going straight the brights are like DAYLIGHT.
7. The look on the face of some guy on a liter bike when a big guy on a big bike with big hard bags rides a wheelie past him and leaves him behind
