Communication Devices I am curious as to the communication devices on the market and anybody's experience with them. I'm looking at the Autocom device and the JR device. I want to be able to use the device for my iPOD, my cell phone and for inter/intra bike communication. Does anyone have any great experiences or even preferences?

chatterbox claims to be releasing a bluetooth unit this fall... no one we know has tried it yet.

Autocom - or if you have serious coin to spend - Baehr.
Bluetooth will be stupid to start. Battery for the helmet going to either weigh you down or have limited run time. Certainly a cellphone can run all day because you only talk for minutes. But music and intercom are real radio-wasters. It also limits your transducer choice.
I run an Autocom Pro-M1 and have WestOne UM2 in-ear headphones. Yummy!!!

i use an autocom on my BMW
works great.......mounts easily to bike
all cords.... controls etc a first class
not usually effected by water....katrina excluded
prices have dropped a little
got mine during the factory 1/2 price sale dec- feb
works well with ipods.....radar detectors...etc
works better if you use the products by NOJ
to reduce noise & buffeting
that accompanies many helmets at speed

On my BMW I use the autocom. For the ZX I looked at the chatterbox. 5 hours battery run time isn't impressive. But portability looked good. I don't think there bluetooth has hit the market yet. (haven't seen it) Autocom's best deal is going with a used one. I sent mine back to the manufacturer for a new boom and they were very helpful and provided quick service. I like that its hardwired to the bike. I made cell calls through it at 70mph and it worked like a charm. And bike to bike its really the best I've tried.

I use the Chatterbox GMRSX1 or whatever it is....I get about 8 hours average out of a charge but I use my mp3 player all the time. The sound is fine and legal speeds, but once over that the helmet is too noisey to hear the radio or people talking.....I think it woudl be good for cruisers or wings with windshields.....

I finally went with the J&M integratr IV - and the J&M elite headset for full face helmet. It sounds great with the music, cellphone, and other. It was expensive when I added in the lithium ion battery and charger, plus the upgraded headset. So with all the options, etc, I paid $700.

My buddy and i use the GMRSX1 chatterboxs and they work great. easy to hear on at speeds of 100+ and we can get seperated about 31/2 miles apart and still talk like we are right next to each other. We get about 6 to 8 hrs use out of one charge.
