Take me to Ulysses!!!

Well, then...I went on a 20-min test ride on a black '06 Uly earlier today. Temperature was in the high 80's with some blustery winds. I rode the bike up a windy curvy, tar-snake infested road and easily hits speeds of 70~75mph.

I LIKE THIS BIKE! I WANT THIS BIKE! I WILL HAVE A BIKE LIKE THIS BY FALL.

The tech set up the suspension per owner's manual for my weight. Damn! this bike is tall! The best I could do at a stop while straddling the saddle was both balls of my feet in my SIDI OnRoad Sympatex on the tarmac. I will definitely opt for the low saddle or a Corbin.

I liked the torque of this engine and the ease of which it brought me up to speed...not quite ZX-12R quick, but plenty quick enough for me and very entertaining. There's enough engine vibration to keep me involved and connected to what the bike is doing power-wise. Dare I say that I was riding what a motorcycle should feel like and not some sanitized speed blender set on liquify?....CONNECTED FUN!

I wish had had the time to take the slop out of the trottle grip and play with the front suspension a bit more.

I'm glad that I had the opportunity to take it out for a spin. It is what I expected and more. Now the scheming for the purchase begins!

I'd be happy with my Z1000, IF, the dam thing would run right. (long story, short version, Kawi dealer didnt want to fix it, said its normal, BS!)

The same company making the Buell hardbags makes a mounting system to put the Uly bags on the Z1000. But my Z1K isnt worth a $1000 set of hard bags, just to stumble, bumble, and sputter around on

Only time the Z1K ran GOOD was at SBNW 2 years ago. When we arrived, it ran its usual crappy self. Guys behind me at stops would get gassed out from the exhaust.
After a day of riding it started to run great. Next day it ran very good, even kicking Dinos ZX10r in 1+2 gear roll ons. 3rd day it ran excellent also.

Go it home, (trailered) and it instantly reverted to its old ways. YUK!
Has only been ridden a few miles since. Now has a total of 1100 miles and collecting dust.

Tried to figure out what was different at SBNW than at home.
Elevation? dont think that mattered, it ran the same at Stevenson as it did at Mt. St. Helens. a 4000 ft variation.
Temp? dont think so, we rode in warm sunny and wet rainy cool/cold temps. All the time it ran the same( once it was running good that is).

To rich? (remember the exhaust at stops). Dont know, it ran just as good in warm dry as 300 miles in pouring rain, which is know to wet the air cleaner on the Z1K and cause a rich condition.

PC3usb? been there done that. richened and leaned the 1000-3000rpm @ 0-50% throttle opening. Never found much difference.

Only constant I found with it here at home (2000ft) was the hotter that day and /or the hotter the bike, the shittier it runs.

Oh well, cant win 'em all.

A Buell cant be any worse than this experiance. And as they teach nowdays, diversity is a great thing

Ozzy...make sure that they take the time to set up the suspension per owner's manual as a base-line for you. I went in and started talking about the bike and was already familiar with the adjustments. They initally told me that they didn't want to mess with the suspension, but when I told them that it would affect my enjoyment of the ride, they unhesitantly took it back to the garage and adjusted it accordingly. I only wished that I had taken it out initially with the 'soft' setting so that I could compare it with the weight appropriate setting. Oh well, I guess I'll find out when I buy one. Still I enjoyed the ride and I'm sure I'll enjoy owning and riding one for longer distances.

frEEk- same fuel in the bike when I got back from SBNW, bike ran like its old self just as soon as it was unloaded form the trip back. I just dont know, and am more than dissapointed with Kawi and the stealership for CHARGING me $38 to tell me it runs right . I thought warrantee was sposed to cover stuff, but i guess not. Kinda like 'beans exhaust. stealership wouldnt do anything about it until EL got involded, except EL didnt get involved in this instance.

I know it isnt me, Dino and 3 others that were in our group all heard and smelled it being a pos that first day.

Yes i took the pc3usb off of it. (Was going to dyno it but someone sold their dyno)
The guys at riderforums.com have no clue. One other owner complained his bike was a turd below 3k. No one had a fix.

Going to put it for sell soon and also sell the Muzzy slip-ons, pc3usb, K&N, and Corbin.
