Buell XB12X ULYSSES

...anybody ride one yet?...looking at the design, I'd say its more of an occasional off-road capable streetbike than a dual purpose bike...I'm likeing the ergonomic numbers for us taller riders...the all-day-in-the-saddle comfort , the high capacity hard bags, a sportbike beating sporting street ride (if you choose), AND the ability to ride out the rough stuff when you go too wide (understeer) on a twisty mountian road....all in one 'strangely interesting-looking' package...what say you???

I sat on one at the Seattle bike show and it felt great. It is definatly made for us larger folk. I think the bike would be great for slamming the paved twisties, then continuing on after the pavement ends on logging roads and old forest service roads. It also would make a great commuter bike. I want one, but bought two DR650's instead.

...I'd sell my KLR650 to help off-set the cost of the Buell...the way I ride and the type of riding like to do (slow to medium pace so I can enjoy the scenery), this Ulysses might be a good 'only bike' for me right now...wish it had better fuel capacity, though...

(This is what I posted on the Touring Zone)

Take me to Ulysses!

Well, then...I went on a 20-min test ride on a black '06 Uly earlier today. Temperature was in the high 80's with some blustery winds. I rode the bike up a windy curvy, tar-snake infested road and easily hits speeds of 70~75mph.

I LIKE THIS BIKE! I WANT THIS BIKE! I WILL HAVE A BIKE LIKE THIS BY FALL.

The tech set up the suspension per owner's manual for my weight. Damn! this bike is tall! The best I could do at a stop while straddling the saddle was both balls of my feet in my SIDI OnRoad Sympatex on the tarmac. I will definitely opt for the low saddle or a Corbin.

I liked the torque of this engine and the ease of which it brought me up to speed...not quite ZX-12R quick, but plenty quick enough for me and very entertaining. There's enough engine vibration to keep me involved and connected to what the bike is doing power-wise. Dare I say that I was riding what a motorcycle should feel like and not some sanitized speed blender set on liquify?....CONNECTED FUN!

I wish had had the time to take the slop out of the trottle grip and play with the front suspension a bit more.

I'm glad that I had the opportunity to take it out for a spin. It is what I expected and more. Now the scheming for the purchase begins!

Awesome bike! In the last few years alone I have transitioned through an 02 12R, an 03 ZZR12 on to an 04 10R, and if I could only one 1 bike, the XB12X is the one I would keep.

Not a Harley fan at all, so it's hard to admit, but it is a GREAT bike!

...ok, racerboy, I'll look foward to carrying more stuff that I need with me without having to strap this and that to the bike and also be more comfortable for the 'slower' long haul pavement tours I hope to take it on...and how is it that a two cylinder bike shakes less than one cylinder bike? ...I remember when my would '04 625 SXC moonwalk backards as I let it warm-up as I strapped on my helmet...sheeesh! what a shakin' paint mixer

I rode one this past weekend at Femmoto.. I wasnt impressed at all. I didnt really jive with any of the Buells, really. It was sluggish, not very fluent, shook and rattled like an elephant on crack. Buell should move away from having HD engines I thinik it would make for a much nicer bike.

That is one thing I like about the Buells..... I could've sat on on in the hot pit for a whole session, just blipping the throttle.... like my friend Tracy said after riding one this weekend, "Its better than sitting on the washing machine"...

...the local Buell dealer called me yesterday and told me that they HAVE TO sell the left-over '06s for $500 over dealer cost...tempting if it weren't for that damn stingy steering sweep...and the '07s have a better front suspension and better tires....I can wait it out if its still on my wish-list...
