Team Kawasaki PSG-1 will be holding their first test session for the 2006 season at Sepang in Malaysia from the 23rd to the 25th January. The session will be of key importance because it will be the team's first real chance to try out the new ZX-10 R that Regis Laconi, Chris Walker and Fonsi Nieto will be riding in the coming World SBK Championship.
After three days in Malaysia, when the official Moto GP team will also be present to provide a comparison, Team Kawasaki PSG-1 will move on to the Phillip Island circuit where another three days of testing are scheduled for the 31st January to the 2nd February. Team Kawasaki PSG-1 will then return to Italy to prepare for the real championship action.

Feedback from Sepang Test from World Superbikes web site

The PSG-1 Kawasaki riders test at Sepang

The three members of the 2006 Team PSG-1 Kawasaki squad, Chris Walker, Fonsi Nieto and Regis Laconi, left their first comprehensive preseason test sessions highly impressed with capabilities of the new ZX-10R World Superbike machine.

The Sepang circuit does not feature on the SBK calendar and because of this the team had no previous points of reference for chassis or engine set-up. The all-round positive result that came out of this test was therefore particularly encouraging for all concerned.

Running on 2005 specification Pirelli tyres, the fastest rider proved to be Fonsi Nieto, who scored a 2'07.464, after he fitted a qualifying tyre.
Second quickest was Chris Walker, with a 2.07.65, on race rubber. New team member Regis Laconi set a 2'09.10, as all team members worked through a myriad of braking options, pad materials and airbox designs.

The riders were particularly impressed with the chassis, and 2005 season regular Walker affirmed that the chassis response and set-up was much improved over the 2005 version.

The team continues its preparations at Phillip Island, Australia, with a three-day test starting January 31st and ending February 2nd. The 13-round, 26-race season kicks off at Qatar on February 25th.
