What is wrong with a Mr. Turbo kit? Just curious, I have seen that several time.

I've never personally used one. I am going only by the very, very many complaints I have read of it. Basically it seems the guy sells sets of parts that typically
aren't ready to install, often have one or more poor choices, have items of dubious quality, in some cases never ever work properly unless just totally redone, etc.

If it was only one or two complaints then I'd qualify that strongly with that only being something I heard... when it has to be at least 20 times I've seen this
and with very few favorable accounts other than a handful of record-holders that likely got special treatment, then it does not sound like a good outfit to me
and so I wouldn't want a post to appear that I was calling the Mr Turbo aspect "very nice" and thus perhaps influencing someone towards it. So I just said
"I can't favor the brand of turbo."

BTW, this one was not such a great performer either... the guy mentioned running at Maxton and getting about 160. Sure that's well above a stock KZ but really
not much for a turbo at all.

So it's a good looking bike with a lot of fine detail but it probably isn't a particularly good turbo set up.

Sounds like not enough boost if he's only doing 160 mph. Or as you say, too many mis-matched parts.

We were running 165 - 170 mph at Daytona and Taladega back in the late 70's on
Z1/KZ 1000's that were only making 130 - 140 hp. We probably had them up to 150 - 160 hp in '80 - 82, just before they switched us to 750's. I believe those trap speeds were in excess of 170 - 175 mph.

I remember a guy that I believe was running a similar Turbo set up on a GS1000 that passed me like I was standing still at Riverside when I was running close to 170 mph on the back straight of the long course. That bike was stunning in a straight line. But his motor seemed to grenade every 30 laps or so. He just wouldn't turn down the boost to make it last. He was trying to have the straight away speed compensate for his lack of corner speed ...

Oh, and I like the bike.

Hey that's my bike. Thanks for the complements. I ran 167 mph at maxton 9/01. There was a 25 mph head wind no BS. I did not have it geared for 200. It was my first trip to maxton. As you can see in the photo i have changed a few things from that time.
I have gone over 200 many times on my busa the 167 on the Kaw took a lot more effort. As far as the MR turbo set up it is old school and its just fine for me. I think it fits the old school bike well. I think most of the complaints heard about Mr Turbo are about the new kits for modern bikes. Next year I plan to beat that 167.

My bike makes about 155 HP with 8PSI boot. I went about 130 at maxton with 8PSI that day.

I'm glad to hear that the kit is working well for you! The huge headwind sure makes a giant difference. Yours is definitely a beautiful bike!
