12R touring vs 'Busa touring ...I recently read a sport-touring comparo which included these two beasts...I gotta ask: Why is it that the writers wax orgasmic about the Busa's sport-touring capabilites, yet they slam the 12R for not having lockable saddlebags?...I've never seen locakable saddlebags on the Busa either!....
...I say: bike ergos is gonna dictate which bike is best for your sport-touring needs...why can't these so-called bike journalists recognize that simple fact?...kids, I tell 'ya!....
...at least they got the FJR1300 right....it possibly the best sport-touring bike for almost any average Joe who want to ride it per design....power, ergos, convenience, handling...its all there...too bad about the radiant heat from below, but I'm guessing that it'll get solved, too...

I have used my 12R for sport touring, and it was very comfortable. The only complaint woudl be that the bars need to be a little bit higher for that kind of riding.....but as mine was primarily a fun bike, i delt with the bars......My buddies Busa made for a great sport tourer as well, but he had 2 inch risers and a corbin seat on it.
For sport touring, tehy both need bigger fuel tanks....bigtime....

Payola or complete lack of mental faculties. A rational, non-paid-off individual is not going to slam one bike and rate it at the very bottom as a sports-tourer supposedly on account of seating position and handling, and then rate at the top another bike with more cramped seating position, lower bars, lower windscreen, and poorer handling, "waxing orgasmic" over it as worm~hole put it.
What's offensive about it is how stupid they must believe their readers to be to not spot the obvious total hypocrisy and double-standard.
If the Busa's seating position and handling were fine then so were the 12's... if the 12's seating position and handling were unacceptable then so were the Busa's.. the only exception is if a wad of cash under the table said differently.
Well, I was stupid enough to give them money this month... but won't repeat that particular stupidity in the near future. It's simple enough: no double-dipping, if they're getting payola from manufacturers then they don't need my money as well. There are much better magazines out there: absolutely any of the British mags, and in the US Roadracing World is much better, and Motor Cyclist is at least somewhat better.
The one and only thing Cycle World has going for it is Cameron's column, but he is published elsewhere as well, and further I can read his column without having to buy the entire mag.
That bit of journalistic dishonesty -- and that's what I saw that article as, not as mere stupidity -- has cost them money from my pocket.
Cycle World is also the mag that gushed over the BMW K1200S as being a "Busa beater" not only on its cover, but again and again with the article at that time. Another example of their total lack of credibility.

I have both zx-12 and busa. Overall I like the 12 better. The busa is better 2 up as the rear seat is more comfortable and it has more torque down low. (I have 3 zx-12's and 2 busas)

Yamaha is stating the 06 is redisnged to address the heat issue. A friend has an 05 and he says it is no hotter on his legs than his Triumph Tiger was. I have no idea if the Tiger is known for excessive heat or not.
Kawi let us down again this year, no Super Connie to go head to ehad with the FJR or the ST13 or the BMW or..
When are they gonna update the Connie? It may be a good cheap decent bike, but it is sooooooooooo dated in the styling dept. Lets get with it KMC, we want a 1400cc,160rwhp, 6 speed (1:1 5th, overdrive 6th, and lots of overdrive lets get the revs down and the fuel mileage up ), shaft drive, abs, 7.5 gal. tank, hard bag and trunk, electric windshield, adjustable seat, Ebony, sport tour bike. And not a gas guzzling pig either. Mid 40's on the hiway a must.
Oh, and a list price of $15k.

I prefer the busa as well. More bottom, smoother, rides better. I'm hoping the zx14 will change all that.

I just got back from a 600 mile ride. From San Francisco to Las Vegas. I have a tall zero gravity sport touring shield, and heli bar risers.. I was comfortable and fast. ( I rode with a bunch of Harleys). I could run 160mph through the las vegas mountains no wind and smooth as a babies ass. I have cease to listen to the magazines as I have done my own research. Every busa Iv'e raced Ive smoked. Gas mileage was in the 40mpg range. Like my wife's 03zx9r the zx12r will go down as the most underrated bike ever..

Was that combined mpg for the 9r and the 12r?? Coz i Ain't seeing no mid 30's yet and i'm talking English gallons (4.5 litres)

I got 40mpg on my 12r.. Keep in mind I have a thin head gasket so my compression is better better squish less unburned fuel.. Before the thin head gasket the dyno software said my squish was horrible.. I also have a bmc race air filter .. The 40mpg was at a consistent 85mph

You'll have to custom cut a 2001 ZX12r zerogravity windscreen.. Thats what I did.. If you don't want to do that get a laminarlip..

I noticed that my 01 12 would average 35mpg on consistent 85-95mph runs to work on the fwy but only got bout 25 everywhere else (full pipe/PC/filter).
I did have the Hans snorkel (debateable effect/affects) and a double bubble windscreen on it.

According to some of the guys in the ZX14 forum, the ZX14 dressed in luggage is the best sport touring bike ever made.

When I first bought my 05 ZX12 I rode it a lot and let my 05 ST1300 sit in the garage. Once I got back on the ST again I found out why none of the sport bikes compare to a sport touring bike for long distance riding. Seat position being the number one concern. I'm 6'0" and my legs were killing me after around 100 miles on the 12. Also fuel milage and tank capacity is a concern on long lonely roads. When it gets down to it, a guy needs two bikes. One for long rides and one for hauling ass.
