Yes we have! Well, sport-tourer to be precise.

Now why on Earth would I jeapordize losing a valuable source of information, or possibly cause him to lose his job just to prove a point to you?
Clearly you think I'm bullshitting, and that's fine, no hard feelings. My posts and the dates speak for themselves. I suppose if you can't appreciate someone sharing "inside" information without quoting a source, I'll stop. It's your site, and I respect that and will play by your rules. :P

Now you understand the difference between a "source" telling you something (happens to us all the time) and an "official announcement"

"Sources" leaking info on models being discontinued isn't viewed with the same "wrath" as confirmed new model info and/or specs being leaked. But I think it's fair to say many of us were "assuming" that the 14 was going to be more closely modeled after the 12. And that a "ZZR" type version would be based more closely on, well, a ZZR base. So I don't think there would have been the passioned out-cry about discontinuing the beloved 12 as we knew it.
I owned a '99 Zrex. Loved it. Should have kept it. I'm going to look for an '05. But I'm also liking the 14 more & more. Oops. Did I say that. How could I know if I like the 14 or not....

Actually, I wonder if one could not "simply" replace the 14's "gas tank cover" (that mostly isn't) with a "gas tank cover") of a ZRX shape (which incidentally doesn't actually match the KZ1000R "Eddie Lawson" shape closely at all) and then put a ZRX-shape seat and tailpiece on it, and a quarter fairing, and call it a day...
There doesn't seem any fundamental reason that could not work styling-wise, though it would be better to have a visual clean-up of the engine as well, as Kawasaki did for the ZRX vs the ZZR engine.
Wonder why Kawasaki did not do this? That would have the ZRX guys overjoyed instead of PO'd.
(Well, I am not sure, they might not be happy with a modern frame.)

Ya know, if Kawasaki needs a "new" naked retrobike style, how about, instead of c. 1982 as with the ZRX, moving all the way up to c. 1984?

I could go for that with the right motor! (And modernized with regards to wheels, brakes, suspension etc.)
Yeah, it has a fairing, but it's so integrated it, like the MGS-01, still has the feel (visually) of a naked bike.
And actually that bodywork style appears as though it could work with the monocoque frame of the ZX-14, hiding the frame completely or virtually so (except down very low, down to partway down the clutch cover.)

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Kawi is working on an answer to Suzuki's new B-King right now. I believe that we're going to see the 1400 platform used in a variety of cofigurations in the very near future. A remake of the old 1985 ZL900 Eliminator with the ZX14 engine would surely satisfy many Kawi lovers needs for a new naked muscle bike. Hell, if they built it right with gearing, length & weight it might even out run the 14 in the 1/4 mile. And with Zuk soon to release the B-King and Yamaha working on a new 1800cc Vmax, Kawi needs to answer up or they're going to be left holding the bag when it comes to the "New" movement of naked bikes.

+1. You're right QWICK, whatever they decide to build must have a muscle bike flare to it along with man sized (6ft) ergos. And would KHI please get into the factory upgrade and aftermarket performance game?

Super nice looking bike Smokin. That's what I'm talking about... A naked muscle bike look with a "Real" Drag Bike attitude! If Kawi would build off of this design using the 1400 power plant and focus on maximum velocity 1/4 mile times, I believe that they would have something for sure. We need an input line to Kawi just like Yamaha has in reference to their new Vmax program. Does anyone have an inside connections with Kawi on that? Cover of the bike Mags would read "Kawasaki, King of the quarter mile... AGAIN!"
