Yamaha has always been an innovative and forward-looking company, and for these reasons the R1 development team are constantly striving for an even higher degree of perfection. When he fourth generation YZF-R1 was launched it immediately set new standards for cornering, performance and styling, and the wide range of engine and chassis changes introduced for 2006 are designed to enhance the R1 experience even further. The higher powered engine and more agile
chassis are sure to underline the R1's unrivalled cornering performance and handling qualities on secondary roads - and will undoubtedly reinforce its reputation as the most exciting and rewarding supersport machine.

+1 That would be the LE. Local dealer has an 05 w/Yosh slip ons and aftermarket screen
for $12,800 non negotiable. I'd hate to see what he's asking for one of those....

i really don't know why every manufacturer doesnt offer a package liek that as an option. i'm willing to bet alot of people would pony up for it, save themselves a bunch of money and work adding those bits themselves later on.

I agree. I wish Kawasaki did limited editions. It would be very smart business.
For the customer, as you say it's much less expensive to buy the Special Editions than to buy the stock bike and then buy the same Marchesinis, Ohlins, etc as aftermarket pieces.
For the manufacturer, it could well represent extra sales, could represent greater profit per sale, and adds prestige.
E.g., if say this year the standard bike comes in second in some comparos, but on the other hand the limited edition bike is viewed as awesome, it raises the image of the entire model. Even the guy buying only the standard bike takes pride in the success of the limited edition one, and further may imagine himself making those upgrades at a later date. Of course he could do so also without the existence of the limited edition, but without that, there's no magazine hype glorifying what the bike will do with the primo stuff on it or at least not to the same extent.

I've got an '06 R1 SE and it's the perfect compliment to my zx-12.
The bike is amazing in the curves. Surgical if you will.
When I want to get nasty in the straight's I pull the 12 out.
